DTC DEM-0005 Solenoid issue

I have lost AWD on my 2004 V70 AWD R. The only DTC the car has is DEM0005. This appears to be a rare code. The DEM has been checked out by a reputable electronics company (BBA Reman) in the UK. The pump works when 12v is connected and when the car starts VIDA/DICE reports the oil pressure rises to 0.3mPa, and the pump draws current up to 1550mA. But after about 10 seconds the pump stops and the oil pressure falls to zero. The pump does not re start. Driving straight away does not cause the oil pressure to increase. The solenoil itself can be made to work by connecting a battery across its terminals - it jumps as the central pin moves inside covering/uncovering the holes drilled in the outter casing. Its only a small movement, but relatively violent.

As all the components of the unit appear to be working ( not sure how well) could there be a blockage in the haldex unit itself. I have done 5 oil changes in the last few months, as each time I drop the oil there is a considerable amount of debris in the oil, which if stored settles out as a sort of sludge.

Any comments, advice suggestions welcome.

Cheers

Bob.

Hi Bob,

I just researched the code a bit and Volvo seems to be pointing toward a faulty DEM which sometimes corrode internally.

Additionally, to help you diagnose the issue, check out the diagnostic flow chart provided by Xemodex:

I hope that helps.

Jason
