mattsk8
I know there are a million topics on this, and I have definitely read them. I also have Lucas giving me phenomenal advice. What I've found so far... is that the R manifold flows (up to) 30% better than my stock 1999 R manifold, and it moves the hot side of the manifold further from the valve seals, so the valve seals should last longer. Where I'm getting mixed info is on just exactly what year Volvos I should get this manifold from. Most of what I've seen says "2004 to 2007 R", but I've also seen that any of the 2007+ Volvo turbo engines all have that better designed, better flowing manifold as well. If that's true, will a manifold from a 2008 S60 T5 w/ a 2.4L work for me as an upgrade from my R's stock manifold? I've also read that this should bolt up, w/out having to mod my DP. Is that true? NEU
This information is all over THIS and every other Volvo site. Try ANY '04+ 5 cylinder, it's not just "R" cars, it's just call that, mine came off a '04 xc90. You want one that looks like the top one, the bottom is the 850, you have the Japanifold, which is similar to the 850 but better flowing than the 850 and isn't prone to crack like the 850. gmsgltr
For others that pop into this thread, page 8 of this thread has amazing info on the advantages of the "R Manifold":

I agree that there is info all over, I found threads everywhere and read them. But... there was a lot of mixed info on what is, and what is not a "R manifold". Just wanted to clarify that the 2008 S60 T5 had the manifold I was looking for, because I found one for $90. Also... thank you for clarifying. I will move forward with purchasing this manifold. NEU
It's as easy as one, two, three... One you want (R), one you have (Japan), and one you don't want (850)...
andyb5
Neu, my 99 R had an 850 style manifold. Even more reason to upgrade!

Johann
2.4 T5 also uses that "5 down" manifold. Also B5254T's, LPT, starting 2002.
