NEU
Drove my car yesterday and had no issues. Got into it last night tried to start her up and cranks but nothing happens... Spent most of the morning trouble shooting. The pump doesn't prime, no fuel to the rail and I feel 3 different fuel relays that click when I try starting it. All the fuses are fine and I'm getting voltage at them. I'm not getting voltage to the pump, but when I run voltage off the battery the pump runs and the car will start after it's primed but stalls as soon as it drains the line. I get voltage to the relay plug, but I don't know what else there is after the relay and before the pump... The pump had been replace 3 years ago and since it runs when jumped I'm glad ti's not a dead pump... The relays came out of the junkyard so I'd hop that one would work and all of them can't be bad. But maybe all 3 are bad? Could it be my I'm running out of ideas on what else it could be... Could it be the immobilizer that is cutting off fuel delivery? Whatever it is it seems simple and something I'm overlooking...
boxpin
In the 850 there is a relay under the fuse block cover called a Relief Relay. It controls all the power. If it fails you will lose voltage to the pump and coil. I cant say this is the problem due to this being 850 vs V70R but it was the case with one of mine. This is the relay and location in the
NEU
I've tried 3 pump relays and the relay plug has voltage., I made a jumper to go from 15 to 87 on the relay plug and I'm still not getting power to the pump.
540i6speed
I believe the immobilizer would set a code but maybe not a check engine light though, check the codes, if not immobilizer it wouldn't be common but you could simply just have a break in the wire somewhere. Need to trace the wiring, also check the wiring on back of the relay box
volvoguy23
Maybe a loose wire connection inside the pump housing or the pump locked up? I've had them stop working completely and do nothing when fed 12volts. I doubt it's the wiring between the relay socket and the pump connector. Maybe pull the pump out and inspect if you still can't figure it out. Or hook up a spare pump to the connector and see how it behaves..
ErikS
Bad cam or crank position sensor?
NEU
Day 2, I've got power and continuity from the fuse to the pump on the pink power wire and all the connectors under the dash. I am noticing power at the black wire at the pump which should be ground. I think I've got a short in the ground wire somewhere?
NEU
So problem solved. Some how the ground to the pump is shorted out and is getting 12v. I clipped the ground wire before the plug and connected it to chassis ground by the pump and it ran... I'm going to have to try and figure out why it shorted. I was hauling stuff in back with the pass rear seat folded down before it happened, something must have happen then??? But that is for another day... I'd like to thank Jeff for helping me out over text and phone calls yesterday, I OWE him big time!
Volvo5.0
Glad I could help you Neubar. I enjoy a good wiring challenge!
gdog
Sounds like the ground wire is open; not shorted to 12V. Either would have the same effect; fuel pump no run..
