nocturnal7x
So my fathers 1999 S70 GLT is acting strangely. With the AC on the coolant light comes on. I know the coolant level fluctuates, maybe its low. He has told me the level looks fine, but one time he said it looked low. Safe to assume its just low and the extra load on the motor from the AC causes this? Thanks.
boxpin
Define 'Looked' low and 'Looked' fine. A/C pressures fluctuate based on ambient temperatures.
troyhyde
Can't really overfill the coolant reservoir, the car will push out the excess. Tell him to add coolant/water.
nocturnal7x
I would like to add some symptoms to this. He has added coolant and the car was fine for a little over a week. He tells me when he starts the car in the morning he gets a puff of white smoke out the back (I am thinking this is coolant). He had to add coolant again last night, but everything seems fine until it gets low again. Coolant is going somewhere, radiator is new (last 30k miles), expansion tank is new (last 10k miles). Blown HG?
Ihatespeedbumps
HG sounds possible, I think it would be wise to put a combustion leak checker on the vehicle and see if hydrocarbons are present in the cooling system. This is a quick and easy test that should be performed on a hot engine.
