2005 XC90 - Front vs Rear A/C

I am working with the A/C in my 2005 XC90. I popped the hood, found the sticker that says 2.31lbs  (roughly 37oz)

I was researching online and find this:

All Engines w/ Front & Rear AC ... 46oz
All Engines w/ Front AC Only ... 35oz

So the question is...do I have Rear A/C or not????

I have the third row seat

I have the button on the dash that says Rear A/C

I have a fan speed control on the third row

I have an additional set of plumbing on the firewall

Then why does the sticker under the hood say 2.31lbs instead of 2.875lbs??????

The amount of refrigerant for the frist generation XC90 is determined by model year, type of A/C system, engine type and market code. The market codes is relevant as changes to the system are made for very hot and very cold climates.

Your XC90 is equipped with rear airconditioning (RAC) based on your description. If your car is a 2005 model with the V8 engine the underhood sticker is correct and the right amount is 2.31lbs with a correction factor of +/- 1,4%. The right amount of compressor oil is 230cc.

The information you found is for earlier models. 2.20lbs is for -2004 XC90 models without RAC (5 seat model) + 180cc oil and 2.87lbs is for -2004 XC90 models with RAC (7 seat model) + 200cc oil.

According to the specifications the 2005- (MY 2005+) XC90, with engines other than the V8, is supposed to get 2.20lbs of refrigerant. The right amount of compressor oil is listed as 200cc.

I can't tell you with 100% certainty why the sticker lists the higher amount. Usually the information "on" the car is more correct than the information listed elsewhere. Maybe compromise and use 2.25lbs? The system will not fail on the spot because of such an insignificant difference. FYI: If your A/C system has leaked significantly, leaked for some time or a component has been replaced compressor oil needs to be added. Not enough oil is bad for the compressor.
