Boxman
Might have done something stupid again. I got a new compressor, dryer and evaporator for my A/C, and curious me pulled one of the caps off the dryer... It made a hiss, and I put the cap back - I thought nothing of it but found out the thing is pulled vacuum from factory for a reason. So with this one breath of atmospheric air, did I ruin my drier and contaminated it with moisture already? Or no biggie? I was gonna install it tomorrow. gdog
You have to pull the plugs when you install it anyway. Put the plugs back on if you haven't already. If you were going to install it a year from now then that would be a problem. If you're installing it within the next few days or so you should be fine. I assume you're pulling a vacuum on the system once you have all the new parts installed? The drier pulls moisture (H2O vapor) out of whatever gas it's exposed to; if it's continually exposed to ambient air, it will saturate in short order, but I imagine that's still on the order of days or weeks, depending your ambient humidity.. H0lD mY d6InK
When you get a new one it is sealed from the atmosphere because the moment you un-cork it, the dissasant or whatever it is called inside will immediately start absorbing moisture (that is its job). Have you damaged anything....no Yes you did let it draw in moisture the moment you opened it. I would not worry about it if you put the cap back on, only thing is that you will want to pull a vacuum on the system longer to absorb any extra moisture inside the system. Flukey
You will be fine with it as long as you pull vac on it.Let it hold vac for a min.of 30minutes but longer is better. If available to you, test charge with nitrogen and monitor the gauges while the nitro bottle valve is closed. Look for any change on the gauge to detect a possible leak.If no leak is there, vac again and then re-charge.This way you are sure there are no leaks and not wasting refridgerant.
