Dru323
So i recently purchased said vehichle, the AC worked fine and the slider allowed me to either choose auto or whichever fan speed I desired. As of the other day though, when I start the car the AC "off" button and the air "thru cabin" start to blink and now when I slide the fan selector to either on or auto, the fan will come on for a second and then stop and the lights on those same buttons will start blinking. Ive been told that the number of blinks will tell me what issue the system is having, can anyone tell me what the amount of blinks mean? If this is an issue that is common that I should search for on the forums, please direct me to where, as in browsing from my iPhone and the search function leaves something to be desired. BEJinFBK
The 20 seconds of blinkies just tells you that the ECC is unhappy. The module has to be interrogated by the right kind of scanning tool to tell you what's specifically wrong.
540i6speed
Usually means the fan is drawing too much current and system shuts it down, could be the fan itself or the blower resistor . Before buying new parts you can take out the resistor to check for corrosion on the resistor board that could be shorting it out and clean it up, also can try to clean and lube the blower motor. Dru323
Ok so I have the blower motor out as well as the blower fan resistor and it's opened so the board is exposed. I don't see any corrosion on the board or anything. The blower itself is like in a pressed case so I can only get open access to one bearing. Sup with that? Dru323
Turned out the blower itself had an internal issue. I hooked it up to 12v and it ran for a second and then shut off by itself. Got another one from Don here in Portland and it fired right up!
