Installed new ETM, car immediately dies.

Used the repair and replace program through Xemodex. I did this so that I would not have to reprogram my vehicle once I reinstalled the ETM. Reinstalled it and it ran great that night and the next day (Drove approx. 20-30 miles). I was sitting in a parking lot with the car running, it started to sputter and then died. Now when I go to start it, it turns over and runs for about 5 seconds then suddenly dies. Sometimes it'll sputter for about 10 seconds, and then die. No idea if maybe Xemodex sent me an ETM that was programmed incorrectly or if a totally different issue has arisen. It's the weekend and Xemodex is not open. I apologize if this is a repost, not the best with computers and this is literally the first time I've been on this site. Looking for any help whatsoever. Thanks. It's a 2000 S70 non-turbo, approx 115K miles.

EDIT: I added a video of my tachometer when the car starts. The battery light has only recently come on since I've been trying to work on the car. I've started it several times without the alternator recharging it. So I know the battery is not the issue.

Any codes set?  If no, I would ck the fuel pressure (heck I would ck it anyway).  You didn't say what kind of car you have but we can assume it's a '99+ MY..

Sorry, it's a 2000 S70, about 115k miles.

Did they use right software ?

I work at Volvo we connect the car direct online to Volvo for right software.

I am not sure, Xemodex is in Canada and I've seen others online use them and have no problems. Not sure why it would run good for a while, then suddenly quit and stop working altogether. Part of the deal with the repair and replace is that you send them your VIN number, pull out your ETM and send it to them, and they send it back in about a week. I don't think it was the exact one I sent them though because this one looks almost brand new. Actually I know it's not mine because the sticker on the bottom is totally different.

There were codes set, but they all related to the ETM. Since I reinstalled it, the lights on the dash (only had the ETS light) have gone off.

Is there a Volvo or other partnumber (Bosch) on your new etm ?

Then I can cross it with your VIN number tomorrow at work to see if it the right part you got.

I have attached an image of the underside of my ETM, it's still installed in the vehicle. VIN is YV1LS61J3Y2645981.

ok not same engine. You have B5204T3 and I have B5244T, but same ETM 8644347 or as exchangepart 36050563 and Volvo software is 9438425.

If notthing help with troubleshotting at link http://xemodex.com/us/pdf/QMSF-1025 TECHNICAL BULLETIN 99-00 .pdf

maybe you can go to a Volvo dealer and get them to download software ? Couldn`t cost that much.

I am working through the flow chart now. It is midnight here tho so about to catch some sleep. I checked fuse #2 and it was good, but I had a spare and replaced it anyways. Still having same issue. I had to order the Engine Management relay for test 2, which I am picking up in the morning. I went ahead and did test three as well, and surprisingly the wires are in very good shape. The car is 16 years old so I was expecting to see some corrosion but they looked really good. So I am ruling out Test three as well. If the relay doesn't fix it, I will run through test 4 and see what happens. I also have the advantage of calling Xemodex directly tomorrow since they will be back open if all of those should fail. I'm sort of thinking it might be that relay considering the issue started suddenly. I feel that only something electrical like that would give out and you would immediately start dealing with those problems. Just being optimistic also that hopefully it is as simple as replacing that relay. Also, are you implying that the software was correct for my engine?

Can`t see what kind of software xemodex is using, but here at Volvo we download software partnumber 9438425 directly from Volvo to the car.

Have a good sleep and see if it will help with relay.

Problem came after new etm, right ? Then I fell it could be something with that, so if notthing help I would go to a Volvo dealer and get them to download new software (check their price first)

Ok will start workday in 30 min

Do you have an extra MAF sensor? If so, give it a shot, it might be your problem. They usually fail after ETM and sometimes they don't throw a code until late. Had to replace mine with a used oem one right after installing the new ETM.

Were you having similar issues to mine? My car will turn over, goes up to 1300 RPM, then stalls from there. From start to stall takes ~3 seconds.

Mine would start and die immediately but that's how I bought the car so I had to start with ETM first (Vida didn't show any MAF code, nor the OBD2 scanner). After replacing the ETM CEL finally showed up and it was a MAF sensor code. Bought one off Ebay (used oem) and car has been running since. Did you check for any vacuum leaks? Non metered air could throw off the ECU and make it difficult for it to correct A/F ratio when MAF and O2 sensor are contradicting each other.
