ovlovturbo
hello, I have a 2002 s60 t5m with about 181k on the clock, I have been getting the generic code for the small evap leak detected. first I get the warning triangle on the dash saying the gas cap is no on or not secure then that goes away after a small amount of time and then the check engine light comes on with the small evap leak code. where should I start looking for leaks? not sure where any of this evap stuff is located on the car either thanks
Chris81964
There is a canister in the back of the car on the drivers side. Start there the J hose usually is the culprit
ovlovturbo
Ok thanks. Is that on drivers side under next to the fuel tank I take it?
Ihatespeedbumps
The J hose usually splits where it enters the charcoal canister which can be found in the middle top of the rear suspension. If you can get a mirror up there you can probably see the crack.
hootie6828
It would be worth checking the seal on the gas cap too, they can Crack or split. If the cap is ok, that j hose would be the next place I would look.
ovlovturbo
Ok thanks. The gas cap is a new Volvo one one. As for the j hose is it rubber or harder plastic? I felt both but did not feel and cracks but I will check again
hootie6828
It is rubber, usually they split and are fairly obvious.
Flukey
Your already on borrowed time with the J hose.As I recall, there are a couple of small hoses around the canister. They all get crusty and crack.Ya might as well just replace all of them now. It's very easy to do.I bet that fixes it. ovlovturbo
still have not had time to get under the car again, but when I was under there the last time it was hard to even see the hoses and get a hold of them as the rear suspension and fuel tank are in the way
ovlovturbo
found a small plastic hard line that was disconnected from a rubber hose near the front subframe next to what I think was the fuel line, so I reconnected this and will see what happens regarding the evap leak codes, in regards to the other hoses they feel fine and I cant seem to find any tears.
