Buying an S60R

I'm looking at 2004-2007 S60Rs.  My bank won't lend on anything prior to a 2005, and I prefer the slight modification that came out after 2004, so I'm likely leaning away from that year, but have a few questions for you R guys and gals.

1) Are parts interchangeable?  I've heard that the seats in a 2004 won't fit a 2005+.  Is this true?  Am I correct that the 2005-2007 are pretty much identical from a body/fit standpoint?

2) I've heard there were some issues with various suspension, motor mount, etc., parts on these cars.  Did these get fixed by the 2007?

3) What is brake assist and do they all have it?

4) What options were available on these cars?  I see there is sometimes an in -dash nav and parking assist.  Are there other options I should be looking at?  (Do they all come with a 6 disk in-dash stereo?)

5) How hard is it to add the in-dash nav after the fact?  (I see them for sale for cheap on ebay.)

6) How hard is it to add the parking assist?

7) How hard is it to add the sports body kit?

8) How many miles are most people getting out of their shocks?  I see that those are kind of expensive but am interested in this car specifically because of the suspension modes.  (I drive both a 1995 850 turbo with all the IPD mods and a 2005 XC70.  I love the performance of the 850 but prefer the ride of the XC70.  I've test driven an s60R and like the comfort mode enough for commuting and the sports mode enough for weekend fun driving.)

...any other advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated.  I really like the sports body kit so I'm looking at cars with that, which are kind of rare, and trying to figure out which other options I'm willing to live without in order to get that kit.

Hard Parts like engines, transmission, axles etc. are largely interchangeable. Due to the difference in CAN between 2004 and 05+ most electronics like seats, non essential control units etc. will not swap.

2) I've heard there were some issues with various suspension, motor mount, etc., parts on these cars.  Did these get fixed by the 2007? No, they never fixed them. They are all prone to shock failure at about 100k, LCA bushings, spring seats like like any other volvo. Currently Monroe is not manufacturing shocks and the only place to source them is the dealer for about $700 each.

3) What is brake assist and do they all have it?  No idea what you're talking about. Are you referring to DSTC?

4) What options were available on these cars?  I see there is sometimes an in -dash nav and parking assist.  Are there other options I should be looking at?  (Do they all come with a 6 disk in-dash stereo?) Lots of options depending on year. All years had Nav available, don't think that was the case for park assist. Most of these cars are typically considered fully loaded and have "climate and premium" packages. It's unusual to find an R without them, though they do exist.

5) How hard is it to add the in-dash nav after the fact?  (I see them for sale for cheap on ebay.) It's fucking garbage you don't want it.

6) How hard is it to add the parking assist? Pretty hard, especially the earlier years.

7) How hard is it to add the sports body kit? Not hard it's just expensive as hell. Some of the parts may no longer be available either.

Thanks for the advice and insight!

What are the climate and premium packages?

I have the Nav in my XC70 and ya, it seems pretty junky, especially compared to my phone, which warns me where the cops are.

You are right about the body kit. I've priced it out and it looks like around $1,000-$1,300.  I'm trying to find one with the kit, that also has everything else I'm looking for but that might take a little while.

Climate package gets you heated front seats and the funny headlight wipers and rain sensing wipers. Premium package usually consists of moonroof, power front seats, auto dimming rear view mirror and upgraded premium audio. I think there was Touring package as well that you a grocery bag holder and laminated side windows. This all changes for MY 06 or 07 slightly. I think in one of those years Touring became Convenience Package and may have included the rear park assist. Good luck with your search!
