bobbyblue
I picked it up for peanuts. 178K miles and in good shape. And red. Very red..... - apparently, somebody jump started it wrong, and blew the CEM. It has been replaced and synced with the ECU and the by xemodex. It does not start, the instrument panel doesn't light up and the Climate control is a bit wonky. It appears the IP is original, but the readout (OBD, I think - my volvo mechanic has the car) reports incompatible mileage.... What should I do from here? thedrill
If you get stuck, I have a cem, ecu and key from a 2001, 2.3 t5. I don't have the trans computer or rem.
bobbyblue
Much thanks. I am waiting to hear from my mechanic about the instrumental panel, and a double check on the cem, and ecu sync. I really hope whatever happen didn't get all of the computers in the car.......... Ihatespeedbumps
Does you mechanic have a copy of the codes retrieved with VIDA?
MyBrickIsSlow
I would assume if the IP milage does not match the Computer, then the PO probably swapped it while attempting to troubleshoot his mistake. In which case it would have to be mated as well. What are you using to determine the origins of the IP?
bobbyblue
sorry for dropping out. Thanksgiving and all that.. OK, I've a got a problem: The CEM was sent to a reputable cloning place, along with the key and the ECU and it did not work: dead Instrument panel with a single "Service Engine" light, everything else dead and, of course, no start. Mechanic (trustworthy) sent it back and the replacement doesn't work either. He pulled a CEM from a parts car, put it in and everything lit up, including the Instrument panel. With a bit of jiggering, he got the engine to start and it ran great, sounded great and sounded solid. He says I need a brand new CEM. The cloning service said the same thing. Dealership says $1500 or so, and they are the only source for the virgin CEM and programming. Even though it is a red T5 wagon at 178K miles, I gather the car is worth about $2500. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated....
Ihatespeedbumps
What cloning service did you use? I have had Xemodex transfer onto known good CEM's before and everything works great. Also, did your mechanic just swap the CEM or several other modules? You can't hot swap a CEM and start a car. Imagine how easy it would be to steal them. bobbyblue
It was xemodex. They can't clone from a scrambled or dead module. He swapped the CEM with a parts car and jumped a relay or two to get the engine running.
Ihatespeedbumps
You could buy the CEM from a dealer (physical or online) install it yourself and have it towed there for programming. May save you a little money in labor. A dealer like TASCA could offer a parts savings. Just a suggestion.
bobbyblue
yeah, a little money. They still want $916 for a new unprogrammed CEM. Volvo has me by the short and curlies here. I'm looking into another source for programming onto a used CEM. Thanks for the input
