apeacock
Getting consistent gear oil leakage from my 2000 XC. Going to re do the two outer axles seals. The output shaft was already done. I only see / smell gear oil so I presume there is no leaking transmission fluid. 1.Do I need any more then #2 & #3 listed in this diagram? I have 2 of each. #2 is 9143885 #3 is 30735126 2. Should I pull apart the two halves and reseal that as well? If so, what with? Doing the turbo drain seals while I'm in there as well. Thanks. Ihatespeedbumps
You sure it's not leaking from the front sea/o-ring #3 and 4? That's the most common leak and a hell of a lot easier to fix than resealing the whole thing. If it were my car I'd clean it off and try to pinpoint where it's coming from. TIZIO AKA 1 HND MEC
IF YOU DO THE DRAIN ANYWAY, CHECH ALSO #3 INER(BETWEEN BG AND TRANNY), I USED ANAEROBIC SEAL LIKE CAM COVER AND WORKS GREAT.

Minimal coming from that side. Cleaned up a little while ago and its back in force at the transmission side. I was advised to not mess with the #4 big o-ring seal. I've #2 x2 and #3 x2. 1 hour ago, TIZIO AKA 1 HND MEC said: IF YOU DO THE DRAIN ANYWAY, CHECH ALSO #3 INER(BETWEEN BG AND TRANNY), I USED ANAEROBIC SEAL LIKE CAM COVER AND WORKS GREAT. apeacock
So the left had seals 2 & 3 live very far down in the sleeve and the angle gear respectively. The transmission side was totally dry and so we decided to leave them be. The big seal on the exposed passenger side was the most likely culprit. Cleaned up Filling it through a long funnel from above the engine. Took about 98% of the 1L bottle. Driven 100+ miles on it with no leaks and no foul burning smell.
