ConorV70R
So i've been getting some really long starts lately. The car will crank just fine and sputter then catch a rough idle for a bit and sometimes hold it until it smooths out. Other times it just doesn't catch at all. Once up and going it drives absolutely fine and it also starts right up after sitting over night. Brand new MAF, Spark plugs, fuel relay, and only 10k on the ignition coils. Also new fuel filter at the same time as the coils. I'm assuming it's something fuel related but can't figure out what. Any help is appreciated thanks

ConorV70R
so what is the actual fix beside the check valve. I actually live right by sherman and he was telling me how much of a headache he went through with that.
Ihatespeedbumps
It's very likely the pressure bleeding off into the pump. Have you hooked up a fuel pressure gauge at the rail and checked residual pressure with the key off after 20 minutes?
hootie6828
If this really is your problem, the correct fix is to replace the fuel pump which will replace the check valve as well.

I can second this. My 2000 VR was doing the same thing just after I bought it. I had the OE pump replaced under warranty and it cleared up instantly. ConorV70R
fuel pressure is just fine. did throw a code for my coolant sensor being faulty and got the bouncey temp gauge on the dash. replacing that and the t stat this weekend. would that have anything to do with this? FYI the car has started just fine for the last two days.... I sometimes feel like a crazy person with this car and it's moods
Ihatespeedbumps
A faulty ECT can certainly cause hard starts on this model.

ConorV70R
ECT must of been the last piece of the puzzle. Switched it out with a new thermostat as well and any and all issue have so far been figured out. Cars running absolutely amazing the last three days. Thanks for the advice and heads up on stuff.
