2002 S40

I have a 2002 Volvo s40 and yes I'm a girl but need to figure out my car. Sometimes it's like the gas is stuck it revs up and just goes without me pressing the gas. Secondly the blower motor runs for awhile after the car shuts off and if I try to start it with the fan still running the temperature gauge goes all the way to red and the car won't start. The car acts like it wants to start but won't. Does anyone know why this is happening. I have no more money to put in this thing. I just replaced a coil back because it wouldnt start and believe it was the original one. I love my car it has 143k on it but so ready to take to the junkyard. I'm tired of sitting and looking stupid trying to start it.

When you say the blower motor runs for a while after you shut it off, do you mean the fan on the radiator in front of the engine or the fan that blows air inside the car for heat? And just before you turn off the car, if you look at the temperature gauge, is it in the middle or is it still on or near the red? Is the car turbo or no?

I am not too familiar with the S40 so hopefully others will help too. And welcome to the forum.

Ok, so your throttle is a cable system, so either the cable or throttle plate are sticking, or your idle control valve is, should be fairly easy to narrow down. If the fan running is the radiator fan, it sounds like you have an issue with your ect sensor. Basically the car thinks it's too hot, hence the fan running, and it won't start. It's also a fairly common failure on these cars. Most replace the t-stat and the ect sensor together.
