propav8r
So I'm getting ready to install my OE trailer hitch on my wagon so I can drag around a utility trailer or a couple bikes. I have a question on the wiring. I know that there is an OEM harness adapter (p/n 8698079) that plugs in and goes directly into a 4-flat connector. My question is do I really need this? Is there anything stopping me from using an off-the-shelf trailer light converter at a fraction of the price? Does the OE harness somehow modify the shift points or do something else besides give me an easy connection to the trailer? Thanks.
Ihatespeedbumps
05+ also requires a control unit, which is plug and play. no programming required. If I'm not mistaken using an aftermarket harness on an 05+ requires splicing the stock harness.

Splicing is fine with me, I'm just asking if there's any reason to use the harness/module besides ease of installation.
