front and rear o2 sensor interchangeability

Hi all,

Is the actual sensor from a Bosch rear o2 sensor the same as the sensor on the front? I know the wiring is a different length and different connector but could one replace a faulty front o2 sensor by wiring in a good rear o2 sensor? I happen to have a nearly new rear o2 sensor sitting around and a fault code for my front o2 sensor.

Thanks!

Aren't there diagnostic testing procedures for the sensors? I'd guess if the resistance testing values were the same, then you're probably good to go.

Thanks. I think they are but I'm not 100% sure.

The code I'm getting is for a missing reading from the front o2 sensor rather than too high or too low a value which seems to happen only randomly because the sensor tested as functioning properly.
