TidesRise
My 2004 XC70 just developed a misfire, I know it is one of the coil packs. My question is this, are all ME7 5 cylinders coil packs the same? I am going to get some from the pull apart junkyard. Is there anyway of telling if they are bad by looking at them without power? Or is it kind of hit and miss at choosing coil packs from the junkyard? Normally I would just buy some new ones but I am low on funds because everything in my life seems to need money right now. Any input is greatly appreciated.
bmdubya1198
You can test ignition coils with a multimeter for proper resistance, but from what I've read, it's not the most reliable method. I don't have the specs available, but I'm sure some searching on here will bring something up. According to FCP Euro, all ME7 coils are the same (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo-ignition-coil-c70-s60-s70-s80-v70-xc70-xc90-30713416)
wizzard_al
Except the R car coils are "supposed" to be higher energy to plug. And, they have a different connector so you can't mix regular turbo and R turbo coils. Easy to fix, just cut off the little nobs on the bottom of the connector. R coils have the nobs further apart. iPD sold some more expensive coils for R cars for a while, but stopped, seem to have had problem with consistent quality and they stopped selling them. regular coils - - - - - ^ ^ R coils - - - - - ^ ^
