big_mike
2002 - XC70 Firstly, I accept that I am an idiot at worst and lacking in good judgement at best. Yesterday forded a puddle that I have been through a thousand times before but failed to take into account that it was about three times the size of the normal puddle due to meltwater. Got through it (water was breaking over the bonnet) but the XC70 was decidedly unhappy heading up the hill on the other side and ended up in limp home mode but got home. Car sounded fine on tick over so left it running for a good while to help dry things out, air filter was damp but thankfully the inside of the housing wasn't. Took her out for a gentle spin and she pulled fine and clean at low revs, clearly no boost though. Needed to get to work so left early and pottered through the lanes and she was okay for about 5km (i.e. drove normally except no boost) then a bit spluttery and got to work in limp home mode (with engine service urgent showing). So, I accept I am an idiot, but I appear to be quite lucky. Pretty sure the engine itself is undamaged (because it runs fine at low revs with no nasty noises and no clouds of crap spewing from the exhaust) I suspect that the turbo is lunched or the boost control is or maybe some of the sensors? I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to other obvious areas to look? Will read the fault codes tonight.

gmsgltr
put the car in rice... jk good luck - the codes should lead you to what is up though
Ihatespeedbumps
Sounds like you got water somewhere it shouldn't have been. I think it would be wise to scan it for codes and see if anything shows up, otherwise figure out where the high water mark in the engine bay was and work from there. big_mike
Amazingly, the car is now running fine! Somehow one of the pressurised turbo pipes split and taping that up temporarily has returned the boost. Must admit I am gobsmacked and consider myself very lucky. I will definitely be more careful in future. Still, need to get the Dice working to check and clear any remaining codes.
