2000 V70R Left Trans Mount... M56 Swap

My R is up in the air now almost ready for an M56 swap. All I have left to do is get the flywheel resurfaced. After looking it over, I have a couple questions...

For one, I noticed this car has a mount on the driver's side for the transmission that I haven't seen before. Is this an AWD thing? Can I remove this and run without it? I highly doubt there's anywhere to bolt it to the M56.

I also can't see the rear engine mount. I haven't looked too hard, but is this the reason there's a mount on the driver's side?

Everything else I've been thinking about with the subframe drop should kind of come to me while I'm doing it, and there are plenty of threads out there already regarding the topic. I'll have to figure out what needs to happen with the rack, and how exactly the suspension needs to be disconnected from the subframe. Do I just remove the control arms?

Not sure about AWD, but on FWD there is no rear mount on the engine side, so you will probably need the correct rear bracket/mount for the transmission rear. I have 2 m56's in my garage with brackets if you need a picture of what you are looking for.

Yes you'll need the mount on the drivers side and it will require some kind of custom mount. @lookforjoe used to make these and if you search this site you'll find out his dimensions for the bracket. Good luck!

Wonderful... I was really hoping I wouldn't have to do anything too crazy to get this to work, but I always manage to get into these kinds of projects.

Well, the more I look at it it doesn't look too hard to figure that out.

I'll take a look around. Thanks!

That's strange, my GLT has a rear hydraulic engine mount like the front one. So what I need to do is get/make a bracket to fit that mount in my picture to the M56?

A picture would be great, thanks!

Just thinking here... since I’m “deleting” the AWD, could I just use the FWD rear hydraulic mount and leave the left mount off? I’m pretty positive my ‘98 has this setup, being its FWD.

The angle gear was already removed, so at this point there is nothing in the way, right?

This engine should still have the mounting points for the bracket (unless Volvo didn’t have those holes tapped for screws on the 44T2), and if the subframe can accept the mount, what’s the harm?

This wouldn’t have worked for Hussein’s application or many others since they stayed AWD with an M66, but I’m using an M56 and going FWD.

I’m going to take a better look at it tomorrow.

You can use the rear hydraulic mount setup, but you'll have to change the steering rack. The FWD rear hydraulic mount bolts to the steering rack not the subframe, and the AWD steering rack is different. You'll also need a couple of brackets that mount to the trans.

So it doesn't seem like I'm going to get in contact with Hussein to at least see some pics of his setup, and I've searched up and down on every Volvo forum and can't find any info on any sort of provisions for an M56 in an AWD P80. Which is strange, because I know it's been done before.

Looking at my M56, there is nowhere to mount any kind of bracket without serious modification. It seems the "simple" option here would be to get a FWD rack and rear mount. Otherwise, I'd really prefer to keep the left side mount. Since all the photo links I've seen are dead, does anyone have a picture of this bracket?
