wizzard_al
If they are later '99 followers, they are solid and not designed to have any action. Only clearance between them and the camshaft.
antman
These must be early 99 then some of then have a ton of spring . I did free one of them up last night without taking it apart it works nice but id prefer to dissemble them to get all the gunk out . Thanks wizzard_al for the input. Ihatespeedbumps
99 was a split year, early build cars still had hydraulic lifters.
bmdubya1198
Did you keep them submerged in oil while they were out? They may just need to fill up, being hydraulic. An easy way to tell if the engine has solid lifters is to look at the cam cover, and you'll see several torx screws along the edges of the cover, just ahead and behind the ignition coils. From your description, I don't think you have solid lifters.
antman
Yes I kept them submerge .The worst of then I believe were on the exhaust side they wouldn't compress at all . I have them all free now and yes they do come apart but not easily .
