Th3Nigh7Stalk3r
I just bought a 2001 S60. When the engine is hot or at its operating temperature, usually during heavy traffic and such. The trans tends to slip between gears 2 and 3, and then back down between 3 and 2. If I floor it, it high revs around those gears and then shifts. I’m new to a Volvo and am just looking for some information about or help with this situation. Thanks in advance
Chris81964
Change your trans fluid. I will start there first. Drain and fill. Don't flush. Drive a few miles drain and fill again. Toyota Type IV fluid. If that does not cure it, you have bigger problems. I had the same issue with my 2001 S60 and my 2003 Saab. That fixed it. Ihatespeedbumps
Transmission failure is pretty common in 01-02 Volvos with the 5spd auto. You could try changing the fluid, but be prepared for the worst.
azatoglu
I had a similar issue and my car is 2004 V70.When I bought the car it was in 144.000km.I changed the trans fluid with Mobil 3309 ATF and added a oil cooler with a filter. Now the car is in 197.000km and I changed the oil again.I think it cures the problem and prolongs the life of transmission.Maybe it will die eventually but I will be sucking 150.000km out of it at least.I used Transsaver transcooler part. MikeH
you may want to change the b4 servo cap on the transmission. I just got a 2001 v70t5 2 weeks ago and it was flaring and huge bang into 3rd gear. Other gears abit iffy at times too. I did a drain/refill and changed the b4 servo cover tonight and the tranny on the test drive ran flawless. Waited a couple hours and it still drove flawless. The servo cover took me literally 5 minutes to swap out (after jacking and removing the wheel) I had version 1 on the car and the one i bought from the dealer was version 4. The part is cheap. 30usd or 40cad.
