I'm definitely getting a BSR chip, but need an opinion on the down pipe and exhaust combination...

The wifey drives the wagon sometimes and we take it on vacations and whatnot, so I don't want super loud highway drone action or a loudass look-at-me setup. I've heard the JT 3" exhaust is as quiet if not moreso than a 2.5" setup.

I'm keeping the stock 15G for now and am not planning on going beyond 300hp for now since that's the limit of the slushbox.

I know the 3" will be better for a huge turbo upgrade, but I don't see that in my future anytime soon. On the other hand, the 2.5" just seems too "small" as it's sooo close to the stock exhaust. But I don't like the idea of a nice 3" down pipe smashing down into a 2.5" exhaust - it makes more sense to have as little bottle necks as possible.

The 2.5" setup with e-cutout may be the best compromise - quiet when I need it to, open dump when it's time to lay the smack down. I would put a 3" e-cutout at the end of the down pipe right before the exhaust necks down to 2.5"...

I know this topic has been beat to death, but I know there's folks on here with both setups, and would appreciate opinions...

I have a JT 3" turboback, and I love it. Really, I do. I'll try and see if I can't get a video/audio of it in action at some point. I'm on alot of private roads, so I may actually be able to go around with the tailgate open recording how it sounds in action (and I can get samples from inside the car).

They are sold catless - did you add a cat to yours or are you running the straight pipe setup? I would imagine that would affect the sound considerably...

I added in a 3" catco race cat. Honestly, I don't think it affected sound very much, though I will be the first to admit it's possible. Seeing as how I could see through it before it was installed, though...

How are the sound levels on this? I'm probably getting an exhaust this summer. I want something that'll belt it out but not overly anoying when cruising.

Honestly, I don't notice it most of the time. I'm running the 2-muffler setup, and the sound is really really mellow.

StickThatClutch, you're semi-local.. we should meet up at some point if you wanna hear the JT before you buy.

NO ATR, I would go for them, sorry but out of all the systems I have heard nothing can compete (performance wise it is also #1 in my book)

it does indeed. when i changed from 3" catless ferrita down pipe to the very same one with the kemira cat the car got considerably quieter. also the exhaust rumble ignition thing almost vanished.
