Engine Mount

So I've been meaning to check out my front engine mount and finally got around doing it. Instead of taking off the right wheel I just turned the wheel full lock to the right and was able to get a hold on the mount. I don't know how tight it's suppose to be but there was significant movement and not only to the mount but my whole car as well...

I would like to try to intall a new mount by myself, but the wheel wells seem to be in the way... I know that the picture on Bay 13, the mount is very visible but my wheel well basically cover the more than half the mount???

Thanks,

Mike

Alright that's what I figured, thanks.

Also do you use a jack to hold up the engine or just something between the subframe and engine to get the old mount out and new one in?

Thanks

I just used a jack w/ a piece of wood for better pressure distribution on the oil pan. Worked like a gem.

Okay that's what I read on Bay 13 but isn't the oil pan fragile, thats why we purchase the IPD skid pad? I just figured that's alot of weight!

Anyway just wanted to double check to be sure...thank you.

don't worry about the oil pan... the skid plate is for rocks, bottoming out e/t/c

You always answering my posts man, you rock!!!!!

And thanks to all the others as well!

One more question, I got the mount today and went to my friends house hoping that he would help me out cause he has a jack and I don't but he didn't seem like he was up to it since he stated, "do it in the spring". Anyway I really want to do it, now, tonight!!!!!!! Can't I just use all sorts of wood to hold up the engine and then use something to prompt up the front of the engine on the side of the mount?

Thanks,

Mike

sh*t I got the 2 14mm bolts off the engine (that was easy). But how the hell do you remove the 17mm bolts, seems like everything is in the way. The thing with the boot is in the way as well as the engine it self...what the yell kind off tool fits in there???????

Just a suggestion: Buy your engine mount from your volvo dealer, I bought mine from fcpgroton for my 850 but it didn't fit.

Ended up I bought the engine mount from volvo dealer. Can't go wrong with volvo original part.

I got mine from FCP Groton and it fits. You just have to check to see which one is on your car before you order.

Thanks guys, I got frustrated last night because I had nuthing that would work. The mount that I have is a little different then the one in the picture on Bay 13. It was only one bolt that was gaving me trouble, the 17mm closer to the rear of the car. It's behind this rumber and metal (part of the mount) that sticks up higher then the bolt. Anyway I put everything back together, think today I will buy some proper tools so that I don't get stuck in these predicaments again.

Thanks guys for your help!

White850T5:

Probably your mount is the older version (subframe < mid 1995) and I believe the older version don't have 2 pins on the bottom that fit to the holes in the subframe. I knew what I ordered from fcpgroton and I even specified my VIN.

Mikie:

Do you have picture? I did mine (bolt that is on the rear end) from the other side. You need to stick the wrench from the other side (oil pan area). Use this kind of wrench (I believe it's 17mm, could differ from urs).

I have the one with the pins as well. I did try from the other side with my rachet but my rachet is too big I need one of those wrenches that you have in the picture. I just didn't realize that my mount was a little diferent then the one shown in Bay 13 (which seems to be much easier to get at) until my wheel was off and my hands were all dirty. I'm going to go to Canadian Tire and pic one up, should be easy then. Thanks everyone, and thanks for the intructions at Bay 13.
