First Mod, comments and questions after 1480 miles on MY06 V70R

Forogt to mention after the highway trip, I checked my tires pressure and they were only at 32 psi but the manual says 39. Will this affect the mpg? I dont really feel a difference in handling.

35 to 39 psi should reduce the car's fuel consumption a bit, & also protect the rims better . . .

I just got my "R" door pins. I thought it would take a few more weeks. Way to go IPD!

I know how to take the door panel on my XC70 - BUT the plastics screws on the V70R doesnt seem to be built the same way. Does anybody know how to pop off the door panels on a V70R? Just want to get my second mod done. Has anybody installed the AL door pins on a V70R?

Thanks in adavance. -George

Why would you want to remove the door panel? Just unlock all the doors and then pull the fuse for the door locks. Unscrew the the old door pins and install the new. When done reinstall the fuse and your done. :)

Errr .... Ya .... ok Thanks.

So anywhooo .... today while driving the car home I noticed a bubble on the left rear tire. Ive only got 2100 miles so far! Any chance this will be covered by Volvo or dealership? The damn rubber hair like things are still on the tire. Ill be so PO'd if I have to get a new tire in less than a month. At least they cant talk me into getting two new tires.

Sorry to hear about that! The Dealer will most likely tell you to check with an authorized Pirelli dealer for an adjustment. I would call and ask before making the trip.

2300 miles

Mileage improving --> now its 330 miles.

One weird/worisome thing happened:

I was coming dow a slight hill that ended in a right hand turn. Before I got to the turn I put it into sport chasis setting and hit the sport button. Uptill the corner I was going slow since it was only 40mph and the van was driving really slow. He takes the turn and immediatley goes to the outside lane. I decide to fly by him and hit the gas pedal The V70R takes off and right when I was expecting the next shift it kept goign up in revs.... It went all the way up to ~7000roms. Between 5 and 7K I was sort fo frozen then I slowly backed off the pedal. it felt like i suddenly hit nuetral or something the car was definetly still accelarating till abotu 5 K then it started the acceleration started to slow down.

It WAS in automode and not in manu-matic mode. Has anybody run into this before?

I did not floor it all the way.

this is the second time this has happened and in auto mode.

Any ideas? I happen to be going into the shop tomorrow to get the headlight adjusted so they are goign to take alook at it. Anything I should tell them or ask then to do?

Thanks in adavance for any help.

BTW Other than the little bubble on the right rear tire and these two isolated instances the car is such FUN! I get stares from people when they hear the engine as I sueeze into slots that a wagon shouldnt normally be able to get to (300 HP) or into (advance chasis setting) :D I cant wait till winter...

Just did my first mod - removed the "V70". I am going back & forth on whether to get rid of the "AWD" and leaving just the "R".

I am also thinking of removing the V70. I mentioned it to my husband and he jokingly suggested rotating the V 90 degrees couter-clockwise so it was a greater than sign. Hmmm. While that appeals to both my engineer nerd and R superiority complex sides, I'm thinking it might just look like it is falling off the car rather than an intentional design. Any thoughts?

I have been toying with the idea of removing the V70 and the AWD so it's just Volvo R...

Why doesnt it apply to mine? Since mine is a 2006? I assume it wouldnt since this Dec 2003 "upgrade" have been applied already by 2006?

But it does describes what happened pretty well.

I'll post back what I hear from the dealership tomorrow. Thanks again,

George

It does not apply because the software upgrade is for the 2004/2005 Five speed AWD transmission. You have the 6 speed and apparently Volvo has not gotten enough complaints to develop a fix for the 6 speed.

I am on my way back from the dealership and I got some good news and some bad news.

The bubble I noticed on the rear tire is nothing to worry about for now. The svc guy said when it gets to be golf ball size, its time to get a new tire. He said putting in "advanced" mode shouldn't be a problem.

And now for the bad news, the lights I went in to get adjusted can't be done be turning a knob anymore. Apparently it takes a sw download and the server was down today. So in a 1000 miles I'll go down to get it taken care of then.

The transmission problems you relate above have been mentioned by a couple of other '06 users on SwedeSpeed. Not sure if you're on there under another handle or not. No one has had any input from the dealer yet.

This does NOT sound like the 2-3 upshift flare which happens on the 5spd autos found in the 2004 and 2005 models, I have had this flare and there is no racing to the redline, just a slight "missed shift" type of slur. DEFINITELY bring it to the dealer.

BTW, your dealer is probably full of baloney about not being able to adjust the headlights. I don't believe that Volvo has changed the design of the bi-xenons for even the 2007 MY (on the R that is). Look in GOOD LIGHT behind the light assembly (easiest to see on the driver's side. There is a white plastic nut that is the size of a pencil eraser just sitting back there waiting to be turned. You can see it from the rear on the driver's side, or from above through the holes on both sides.

Have at it!
