AlexD
wasn't it Jim's post that said it could cause leak's ? ?I think this is just a matter of semantics, and we're all actually on the same page. Jim said leaks "could develop." Do correct me if I am speaking out of turn Jim, but he clarified it later by pointing out that it finds its way thru old or dry seals. This is a correct statement. It's not a matter of synthetic oil being thinner, but that it's cleaner and tends to dislodge oil sludge left behind by conventional oils making the normal wear and tear more obvious. Similarly if you had an old and crusty cooling system and you used some de-mineralizer treatment on the system and leaks appeared, its most likely that the deposits were plugging up leaks and they are now uncovered, not that the cleaner caused the leak. 68GT500KR
yuk anything but pennzoil....put the yellow bottle down and back away...I wouldn't use that crap to lube a barn door hinge...I'm still using the Castrol R semi synthetic that is factory recommended, next service it will be full synthetic.Or Mobil 1 fully synthetic.Good to know, would have helped to hear that pre oil change...oh well, I will switch to mobil next time around. Thanks to everyone for there information and discussion on the subject.
FlyFast93
Any problems running synthetic (Mobil 1) and then going back to regular oil?My wife took the Volvo into the dealer for our free oil change....and she forgot to take the Mobil 1 that I left for her while I am away on business. So, I imagine that for the free service, they likely just put in regular oil.....Big deal?I plan to switch back to synthetic when I get home. <_< How about Marvel Mystery Oil? Anybody run that or any additives?I run it in my airplane becuase people SWEAR by it for keeping seals (and fuel bladders) lubricated / prevent drying out and leaks. I have used it for years with good success.I have heard recommendations for cars as well - in gas and oil.

Thanks for keeping an eye, I talked to the guy who is working on mine it will probably be coming home next March or April and will hopefully compete at the Shelby American meet next summer, although we will have to wait and see. The reports are very good and she is probably going to be a good competitor in the end. Thanks again for the update, keep them coming! and tell me where this one was sold please! I also fly and currently fly a Mooney 231/M20K turbo model (of course turbo!)I flew an Ovation 2...man what a great plane, but with a family on deck I just could not get away to fly often enough to make it worthwhile...too bad. The 231 is a great bird!

CLSwee
I'm partial to Mobil 1 0W40Alex,Interesting that we are both in the SF area. The service advisor at the dealer I use recommends 10-30 and recommended against 0-40. Do you have your R serviced at a dealer? What is the view at the dealer? ScottishBloke
I'm partial to Mobil 1 0W40I'm about to put in my order for my 7500 mile service - is $5.70 a quart a good price for this stuff? and I need 6 quarts for a change, right? The dealer will do it for free with their blend... but after all I've read here, the $40 seems like a sound investment...
