*Supposedly* according to Volvo, yes it does, this is why the software update is required as it sets the low end crossovers higher on the main speakers since the sub takes over these duties.

I thought so, give the VADIS download. Thanks.

Is it integrated to take some of the low-frequency stress off of the main drivers? Which is to say does anyone know if this system is arranged like a home system that sends certain low-end frequencies to the designated sub channel and then another range to the drivers?

Pete is the audio guru (as his $10k speaker cables can attest)... perhaps he can enlighten us.

It would all depend on the software . . . if it does infact change the cross over / frequency point's. otherwise, No normally you need a cross over block & or cap's & coils. I've played w/ high output stereo's. this is the One & only vehicle I have ever left the stereo system alone. & even that I'm putting the absolute most I can get for it.

But Yah, for me it was as Alex said. I could of made or had made a custom enclosure. I like JL sub's myslf or Kicker isoberic . . . JL take very little air space (W1's anyway) but the kicker's require Alot of air space. I run 2 JL W1 12's in my truck w/ a 1000 watt Memphis amp. anybody who knows stereo's will tell you Memphis is high end shiot. . . I run 1 12" L7 Isoberic kicker in may Saab, w/ about the same 1000 watts. People are surprised there's only 1 sub in the trunk.

Either way, hopefully I'll get a minute to throw it in here soon.

You won't able to walk out with spending only $140 with a subwoofer, a box, an amp and the necessary cables and wires. However, your suggestion is a good alternative setup for those who really want bass and not care about the factory look.

And those that don't mind it occupying cargo space. B)

Actually sub woofer's have come Along way in the last few yr's. you can get a pretty big hit, without taking up much room. (meaning, put in the factory location) but Ped's right. Your cost comes from all the surrounding item's to go along w/ the sub (if done correctly & in stealth mode) this would just be 1 more case of each to there own. I have it different in each of my car's.

24hours, it's not clean power that does damage, dirty bass can hurt your ear's. . . .funny thing is, the louder the music (heavier bass) the faster my son fall's asleep in the car. singing 1 minute, snoring the next. *obviously with the volume only So loud* 24, I think you'll be glad you got the sub. the more seperate you can make the sound, the better the listening experience. seperate's are awesome for Jazz & or classical music. listen to the same song in my truck, & U'll hear thing's you don't normally hear. very clear, boston pro's 6, 4, tweet up front, 6, tweet combo in the rear door's, & 2 JL W1's behind the rear seat. 1000 watt's going to the 12's & 600 watt's goin to the high end. hooked up the vizual logic headrest's for the kid's & a Alpine IVD-310 head unit. it's surround sound for watching Happy feet or whatever else is out. Or, the kid's can watch there show in the back seat,(w/ head phones) & we can watch a different DVD or listen to the radio up front.

What I want to figure out, I know it's been done, is hooking more power up to the factory speaker's. Speaker's can handle alot of power, as long as it's clean power. 1% or less THD. think my Sony amp in the truck is rated 600 watt's @ .6% THD. Very loud, Very clean tune's.

Yes you can. And it's hardly occupying cargo space. In fact, I still get to use the tray. This is the kenwood sub I'm talking about:

Wagon owners have used this in the past and it works quite well, I good cheap alternate to the Volvo sub.

Humm, that's too much of a space sacrafice for me, and for $250+ I think I'd dpend the extra $50 and have the Volvo one from the factory, or the extra $200 and get the factory one aftermarket. The factory sub also includes software that alters the crossovers on the other speakers and is tone matched to the factory speakers as well so it provides a much better matched sound.

I was looking at the Infinty Basslink ll for a while.

It's a self-amped wedge that's meant for going

behind a pick-up seat, but it look like a nice fit for the R.

I think I wanna keep stealth though. But it's an option.

The kenwood looks like a nice alternative . . But ! it's only a 61/2" woof. great for tight stuff. Jazz, classical . . be interesting to hear one. doubt it would have enough kick for me. may end up swapping out the factory sub for a JL I just wanted the factory look. ie: mounting, cover carpet ect ect.

$249.99 is too far off from the mentioned $140... Even the refurbished $169.99 is a bit off from $140 mentioned in this post. However, this is a good alternative for people who want more bass from the sound system.

It's really not.

I used one of those in my street rod PU. I only had a small space behind the seats against the rear of the cab and it worked out great.

It's quite thin, about 2" or so
