Final word on aftermarket AWD suspension kits?

Recommended Posts

Latest update

Coilovers have yet to be delivered as Marc at European Tuning has had a death in the family.

He can take as long as he needs to get things sorted for himself.

For your info, I went to the Volvo Museum in Gothenburg last week, if you are interested please follow the link to the v70r gallery

Awesome pics in the gallery Patrick. I just wish that you had a full pic of the 850 Estate touring car.

So are these V2 or V3?

Any possibility of a group buy?

Sounds like it it might be hard to find a shop to install these at a reasonable price?

Take a look at this thread as well - can anyone shed some light on this Kalmar upgrade option?

(Especially our European friends?)

I'd love to hear from anyone who has this Kalmar kit on and can contrast the ride to the factory US setup.

Version 2 I think

Ok guys, I am still waiting for this kit.

Marc at European Tuning is waiting on Intrax to deliver the final part of the kit, two little springs for the rears that retain the large springs to the event that the car is jacked up.

As soon as I get them I will let you know.

Here is a little more information....

The "Euro Niovomat Upgrade kit on Kalmar Union's website is no longer available.

It consisted of upgraded front struts, upgraded (firmer than the stock ones) rear nivomats, and firmer springs and it had the effect of lowering the car slightly as well.

I suspect that this setup may also have been offered as a factory option on the original European spec R's as a "sport handling package", but I was unable to verify that.

As most are aware, some of the Euro spec models are lower that the U.S. spec ones from the factory. A "handling upgrade option" would account for that. It may have been made standard instead of optional for the 2000R Euro cars. Again, I have no actual confirmation of this, this is just deductive reasoning on my part only.

In any case, it appears not to be available anymore, and the word from Kalmar is that the "upgraded" Nivomat shock is no longer made.

Latest update........

Car and suspension are in RT Mechanics in Liphook being fitted.

For a pucker job the rear top suspension mounts are being replaced.

These mounts come in 3 pieces.

Russell at RT has tried ordering replacements from Volvo but Volvo keep supplying the wrong ones so Volvo UK are going to have to order the replacements from America. Surprising that these parts are kept on a shelf in the US.

New upper mounts should arrive some time next week..............

It's seems ironic, I have been waiting for this suspension set up now for the last 3+ years, so near but yet so far.

Will update next week when the parts are in etc....

Have a good weekend to you all!

Patrick

What was the parts cost in UK money?? I'm really thinking about doing this longer term. Fitting is something I can easy do myself.
