850R Sleeper
Alright, I need some help with my 850. My car battery is dead and I need to jump it; however the cable that goes to the passenger side hood latch doesn't work. What I was wondering was, if anyone knows how to unlatch the hood? Do I need to jack the car up and get underneath it or what? Any suggestions please.Message me or post here!

grocerygetter
personally I would try and trace the cable to where it broke, IIRC it runs up the drivers side quarter panel and then to the passenger side somewhere around the bumper. I am sure this has happened to someone on here before.
jda2000
remove the front grill as explained in the maintenance section of volvospeed. Then fish for the cable that runs to the right latch with your hand and pull towards the left. That should free the hood. Guest David Ingram
I had a similar experience with my 850. After succeeding in getting the hood open, here's what worked for me.The latch has a little lever just below it, which if you push towards the driver's side should release the latch. You might need to wiggle the hood up and down a bit to free it once released. You can reach this lever by reaching through the hole in the fender where the turn signal lamp wiring passes through. First you'll have to remove the lens, which you do by simply pulling it straight out towards the front of the car. Notice a retaining spring holding it in, which is hooked around a flange on the back of the headlight frame. If you're careful you can stick a long-handled screwdriver into the spring where it's hooked to the headlight, and free it by pushing it backwards into the car, and carefully let it spring outwards through the hole. Be careful because the headlight frame is plastic and you don't want to break off the tab where the retaining spring will need to be when reinstalled! You can now disconnect the turn signal assembly from its wiring and put it aside.Next, reach through the hole in the fender with a long narrow object -- you will want to reach upwards and almost straight ahead in order to find the lever you're looking for. It might help to shine a flashlight under the hood and look around until you see where the latch resides. Once you're on it, lever it towards the driver's side of the car and you should get it to release.Good luck!

850R Sleeper
So I got the grill out earlier today, but ran out of sunlight. I'm going to take another long look at it tomorrow and I might end up just jacking the car up to try and reach the cable. I dont know how stable the snow is though....hmmAnymore suggestions, I'd love to hear them
