Slater
I know the 95s had an EGR and the 96+ didn't, so that means running a 95 ECU on a 96+ car would throw a code.Has anyone done it the other way around? I don't see any reason why the 96+ ECU wouldn't work on a 95.The processor is faster and it retards timing before boost. The EGR system would just not function, but I don't se that as being a problem.Anyone know?- Slater
JHEIII874T5M
96 ECU does work on the 95's just like the 95 ECU's work on the 96's. My buddy Ben is using my 96 850 Turbo Speedtuning ECU on his 95 850 Turbo, works perfectly fine :)
jross
Motronic 4.4 didn't come into play until 98, but I've heard reports of 4.4 ECMs showing up on MY97 cars. I think95-97 were 4.3? I know my 96 is.

EricF
94-97 are Motronic 4.3.The 94-95 had an EGR valve, and using a 96+ ECU will throw a CEL for it AFAIK...As for the Motronic 4.4 in the 98 cars, I think the only difference is that they have a barometric pressure sensor value? I'm not totally sure though, or to what extent (if any) it affects the fuel trimming or ignition timing.

Usually it's the other way around. I know trying a 94-95 ECU on a 96+ car will throw a code because it's looking for an EGR system that doesn't exist> but the other way around shouldn't matter I would think... FIORE
I'm not a 100% sure but I bought a used ECU from a 850 turbo i think it was a 95 could of been a 96. I had this ECU chipped by UPsolute and kept my stock 97 ECU. I havent experienced any problems with check engine lights.
