Playboy
Alright, is it possible to get the connector at the back of the stock HU that would be used for the cd changer unit and run the XM unit through that? I'm thinking about installing a XM unit in the cig ash tray and run it through the cd changer function. Let me know what you guys think.-Ryan
prasamin
can't be done...the adapter is not available.....unless you can somehow make a headphone out to volalp in wire....
billr99
I used the wired FM modulator from Delphi and mounted my Skyfi where the ashtray is located. Actually pulled the ashtray out of its frame and bolted a metal bracket in the space to hold the unit. Reasonably out of the way, but a bit hard to read as it is a hair low.Cheers
prasamin
I had the SkyFi with wired FM, but I hated having that thing out...so i got tired of it, cuz it takes up space, and the sound sucked, and I got a sony HU with XM and what not....better to go with an XM/Sirius ready HU in my opinion...though it will cost you some $$$
Mesoam
hold on a sec...i thought there was an adapter thatplugs into your cd changer inlet and gives you a L/R out source (red/white wires). And i swore i have seen the male ends that go to headphone plugs? or maybe i'm
Playboy
hmm you got me. I was going to try to get the connector that would plug into the cd changer inlet and splice that so I can bring the XM through that but I dunno how good the quality is going to be. Bing, what do you think? Is it possible to run a setup like this and still have good quality music??-Ryan
prasamin
Ryan, I just found out that Blitz makes an adapter that will let you plug auxiliaries into your CD changer port....http://www.logjamelectronics.com/blitzvolxmdmxdelphiv1.htmlenjoy...some dude was actually selling his in the FS section earlier today or sometime....-Pras-
Playboy
Ryan, I just found out that Blitz makes an adapter that will let you plug auxiliaries into your CD changer port....http://www.logjamelectronics.com/blitzvolxmdmxdelphiv1.htmlenjoy...some dude was actually selling his in the FS section earlier today or sometime....-Pras-←wait, so I still need the car adapter kit to power the XM unit and to run from the XM unit to that adapter? This seems like it's going to be an expensive install.-Ryan
prasamin
You don't need the car kit...you need a 3.5mm headphone to RCA wire to go from the unit to the Blitz, and an FM modulater to be able to get power to the unit...there may be a way to hard wire the unit with the wire they provide you, but don't quote me on that....you will need an antenna, which can be had on Ebay for pretty cheap...Let us know if you have other questions...I had the SkyFi and bought the car kit and FM mod....I only bought the car kit because I needed the antenna out of it and I didn't know I could get it on ebay for like $10!!So:1. Buy unit $1502. Buy 3.5mm stereo/RCA cable for like $3 from Radio Shack $5(to round off)3. Buy Antenna ($10)4. Buy FM Mod or hard wire unit for power ($40)5. Buy Blitzsafe adapter ($100)6. InstallThat's about $350 to include tax and what notJust buy a new HU (decent one with XM for about $200 with install kits for Volvo), and buy the respective XM tuner and adapter by Terk ($50 each, so $100), and install it yourself in about 1 hour....you spend the same amount of money with tax included, and you get MP3 playback, pre-amp outputs, and a stylish look.... Playboy
thanks for the input and help dude! The only reason why I don't switch over to a aftermarket HU that is XM capatiable is cause I just bought my upgraded Volvo HU a couple of months and when it comes to the stereo I want it to look as stock as possible. I'm going to look into this setup and I'll let you guys know how it turns out.-Ryan
prasamin
yeah, i'm curious about how it will sound...and how you wire it for power if you choose not to buy the FM mod...
