pm2000541568908310
For the first time in 34,000 miles, other than the last bad gas, my R stalled. We have an AX tomorrow. I am now convinced the car just doesn't want to 'cross anymore. I tossed it into nuetral, switched the key back a notch, watched the rpms bottom out and listened for the engine...yup stalled. I hit of the 4-way flashers and did a quick 'come around me' to the people behind and I let her roll. Tried restarting her - NP. I don't know what to do. We are supposed to drive to NY/NJ next week. How do I have faith in this car? -mk

pm2000541568908310
Sorry to hear that... Start planning for a new car. I don't know what to do. It was running great, this came out of nowhere. I have been looking. There is nothing that fits my needs, that I like, much less can afford. Every loaner I get makes me realize I sooo love this car. It is hard to think a 2 year old car can be this unreliable. -mk
geoguy
There must have been codes set that might help . . . but also basics: clean air filter & fuel filter(s)? The previous problem was caused by water in the gas, right?Did they replace the pump control module during the previous extended dealer visit? Or at least clean the contacts? I don't like how that thing is located underneath our wagons, where the electrical contacts could easily corrode.I assume you have a stock air filter, but if you have a re-usable one that requires periodic cleaning/oiling, others have learned the hard way that the MAF can easily be fouled by over-oiling. - Mark

mmcrrc
I had been following your other post about the car stalling on you; I have no mechanical advice for you, but sorry to hear that you are having problems again.

I took it out, put the stock (fresh) in. Cleaned the K&N, oiled it, let it sit for days the reinstalled after about a week. This isn't my first time around with K&N, I didn't go overboard. They did not replace the control module, which is what Nice Lady says they are doing now. They have it in stock, (shocking huh) and I should be good to go tomorrow. I still don't know if I want to attempt NY with it. We are going to Bristol Sunday and will not be taking it there either. The race starts at 1p. I can get to NY at my leisure. I will not be using an unproven car to get to the hardest ticket in Motorsports. Thanks to those who feel my pain. This has been a killer week; an Uncle died over the weekend, I found out Monday. Joyce found out on Tuesday, her job isn't there next year. She is seeing the MD about a muscle spasm/pinched nerve, almost incapacitated, then the car today. I picked the wrong week to stop snorting cocaine. -mk

Pedestrian A
The clogged MAF might be the problem but the CEL should be triggered earlier. You guys already know it, LIGHT on oil when re-oiling the filter. The MAF location is weird on the R as the filter attach right into the MAF. Look at other Volvo models and you will notice there are few inches of piping between the MAF and the filter. The special R MAF location just create the problem as the oil will clogging the MAF.
