NChoy
It's been a while! Last year, the motor I built blew up. Turned out all liners were cracked and the HG gave way. Not sure which came first, chicken or the egg. In any case, I built a new motor, using an '02 T5 bottom half, punched out to receive my Wiseco pistons and H-beam rods. Made some custom aluminum shims: Installed prior to going to the machine shop: ARP head bolts installed (yes, now it's a red-block, so maybe this time it won't blow up, LOL!): Another angle: D-port porting and polishing by CJ on the '98 head... flow numbers match (or better than) that of the later P2R heads: ^ Well this sucks... can't post HTML or BBCode anymore??? NEU
Looks nice Nick, welcome back. I fixed the pix for you. So you are using an RN 2.3L? Love the "red block" look. Keepin' it Ole Skool.
LetterT
I keep telling myself, "leave the R alone and enjoy it." Then I see threads like this. Good thing I don't have the money. You sir, have a fantastic R.
NChoy
Looks nice Nick, welcome back. I fixed the pix for you. So you are using an RN 2.3L? Love the "red block" look. Keepin' it Ole Skool. Thanks Neu! So how did you fix those pics? I have many more where they came from... dropped the rear subframe and am making some custom bushings for the upper control arms (I know you and Big Will are very interested in what I may come up with). We should definitely chat about this since I'm moving forward very quickly on the rear subframe mods. Yes, the block is an RN 2.3L. Seems to be the best way to go considering I had all the correct "big-boy" internals from the previous motor build. Was going to do Dartons but the smaller bore was going to cost me a lot more. If I ever do Dartons I'll start with a 2.4L core. Maybe I'll do that on my wife's S60R.
NEU
The issue with the pix was you were using the link from the slideshow. I went to your slideshow links, opened the picture in a separate page to just get the direct link (without slideshow) and Bing bang boom! You should post up more about what you did to the car from '10 to recently, I'm sure a bunch has changed... Fill in the gaps, give us a review... You know more Volvo porn. I'll post up on the other thread what's going on with my suspension. But you are right You, Will, myself and I think even Hussein are on the rear subframe rebuild. Between the 4 of us we should be able to get some good solutions with the non upgradeable bushings.
NChoy
Not a whole lot has been going on with the VR since 2010. I was too busy building this: Also picked this up for my wife, and have been doing some mods (I can't help myself!): Most recently on the VR, I removed the entire subframe/fuel tank assembly. Not so intimidating with the tank removed: ^ Me trying the pics didn't work... that's why I write news stories and not code...
andyb5
Looks good so far, definitely interested to see some more pics of your wagon!I'd be in for some of the rear suspension bushings as well if you are having some produced.
Big Will
I'd definitely be in for some delrin or similar bushings for the subframe. And as I said in the PM, if for any reason you can't find a good supplier then we can try to get a small group together and go the route I mentioned through my contact over here. I might just need someone to send me or them the stock bushings for measurements. I also have some updates from my wagon that I will post soon...just need the last few pictures from Mr. B Mac as he has a much better camera than I.Oh and I'm jealous at how you West Coasters have no rust...if you look at the spindles on my wagon they are crusted beyond belief from years in the Northeast. NEU
Fixed again. I think you are putting them as links and not image links?? The icon of the screan about. ^ IDK I'm just the guy at the gate not the Great & Powerful OZ!.
andyb5
Also, I would like to let you know how jealous I am of your nice clean corrosion-free subframe. Mine is so nasty
NChoy
Fixed again. I think you are putting them as links and not image links?? The icon of the screan about. ^ IDK I'm just the guy at the gate not the Great & Powerful OZ!. NEU, I just can't figure out these damn photos! I think I need a class on how to post the image links. I used to just copy and paste the BBCode or "embed" the HTML link, but obviously that's not the case anymore. I should just stick to working on my cars... I'm much better at that. Andy, most cars that are from this area have similar undercarriages. In most cases, all fasteners (even on my '67 122) are not rusted and remove quite easily! However, I do plan on having all the suspension components professionally cleaned and stripped, and powdercoated.
NChoy
Rear suspension bits are back from the powdercoating shop. Time to start installing bushings! DSC_0347 Let's start with this one! Notice how I have to use all kinds of large sockets to get them to go in. (that's a head bolt by the way)... DSC_0348 Set of custom bushings made by my machinist. All other bushings are off-shelf poly for 240 and 740 applications, believe it or not! DSC_1251 Installed: DSC_0208 Had to use this specially made tool to install the smaller bushings: DSC_0204 Like so: DSC_0200
