Saved this Aussie V70R from the wreckers !

The OP has the same problem as you - his original motor is a B5234T6... Except he's found a B5234T.

Also, Australian delivered Rs follow the European spec.

IIRC:

B5234T3 had the TD04-16T and was used for Aussie delivered T5 versions

With the new motor are you going to swap over all your R specific bits?

(i.e. injectors, turbo etc?)

I am sure someone with more experience on both US and EUR spec R-s can help.

Big Will?

:(

Trent

Could be - a quick squiz (er.. I mean look) would validate this.

Hey Thomas

Ozzy delivered V70R's have the 18T straight flanged turbo.....you just need to make sure your replacement motor doesn't have that variable valve stuff and has a distributor.

My doner car was also a c70 T5 and the sump is the same with the oil cooler housing bolted to the side of it.

Cheers Daz

Will know Monday when the motor is supposed to arrive in Brisbane. Yes I would like to bolt all the R specific gear on it and the turbo on mine is definitely straight flange as I checked that out a while ago. Unsure of specific model though.

Thanks

Thomas

Australian R owners rejoice :P

I have found a kindred spirit in the Australian Volvo genuine parts sales business via another forum I am on. He said that he would extend the pricing he is giving me on stuff (very close to US which is unheard off) to V70R forum members.

Ask for Tom. Mention you are from this forum and blame me for the hookup (Thomas). To say he has been a godsend is an understatement.

I will hopefully have an update on my R this week. Did I mention the thermostat I fitted last weekend (after the overheating issues) was faulty out of the box. My shop tells me it refuses to open when testing it. Poor R never stood a chance :(

Great work Thomas B) thanks for the contact !

As a parts interpreter for Mazda I do a similar thing for my Mazda forum buddies :D

Let us know how it all pans out mate, at this rate yours will be going before mine...

We all like pics. Even bitter sweet ones. Low miler donation (B5234T3 from C70) to replace my possibly overcooked 196K unit. I will pull the head off mine when it's all done and dusted and find out then whether it is still salvageable. Worst case scenario I have a spare that I can get tweaked :P

Is this going to be an issue? I'm sure my T6 has a water to oil cooler there under the turbo?!

Gotta love the way dismantlers take the lazy route and just cut stuff rather than disconnect it. Various hoses (replacing all my hoses anyway) and wiring looms just cut. Fuel line cut then left in position and disconnected behind head.dry.gif

I remember reading here R's have a specific exhaust manifold. Is it possible to tell by sight or is it a part number lookup? Same question for inlet manifold, throttle body, etc ...... I bought all gaskets and o'rings that I could think of (genuine thanks to Tom from ULR) so swapping the in place gear with my original engine gear isn't going to be an issue. Flame trap kit was only fitted 4 weeks ago.

The guy doing the work seems to know these engines and has done a few swaps but anything you guys can think of that may catch him/me out during the swap in terms of been there done that info would be greatly appreciated.

And the stuff that is there has been taken to with a set of side cutters

Would just really appreciate input from the people on here that have done a transplant like this as they would know what to look out for. Hence the pics. I am not below begging for forgiveness :P

Hey Thomas

I got to see my engine today ! It pretty much looks the same as yours, engine harness cut, hoses cut ect.. I did get a flex plate though, but no use to me as mines a manual !

Also seems to be a starter motor, plug leads ( one missing ) dizzy cap whoo hoo !

You mentioned gaskets and seals, I'm definitely pulling the sump off, checking the oil pick up and changing the o'rings as its a PTA to get the sump off in the car.

R Manifold and C70 manifolds I'm thinking of trolling Carsales tonight for a C70 vin and checking on Vadis for comparison.

The Race is on !

Forgot to mention REAR MAIN SEAL a must !

Aaah. Excellent. Was hoping to hear that sentence if you're referring to the B5234T3 in the pics going into my R (with broiled B5234T6). The motor did get delivered to the shop mid last week but the guy doing the work there (the only Volvo specialist there unfortunately) has a full plate he needs to clear first. Friday he started prep for removal which sounds like entire drivetrain out the bottom with subframe? The worry seems to be neck for the new engines oil cooler connections under the crank sprocket which I honestly cannot remember seeing on my engine when I changed the timing belt and related pulleys and tensioners, etc.

Those only changed on the 99+ motors when the moved from the oilcooler in the radiator to the oil cooler attached to the back fo the motor.

Its the same thing on your motor thats in the car now;.

The engine is ready to go in but we've hit a road block. The right hand side drive shaft carrier bearing is very noisy but Volvo list teh part as "expired" in AU (se my other thread :( ).

And of course Chilled Man was right about the oil cooler inlet/outlet location. Call in man blindness. Honey where's the mustard. Right in front of you. Oh :P
