DAZ-13B
Today's update...Dropped the head off at Turner Engineering a few days ago, as I don't know much about the way the engine failed he did say the head has got hot and that it is warped to some degree.I guess I will find out in the next few days if it goes well.On a good note I now have Vadis working ! special thanks to Thomas Looking forward to ordering my new 18T from Volvo... DAZ-13B
*Update*New turbo ordered from Volvo last week, surprisingly how cheap at $960.00,new studs and nuts were pricey at $200 for the set...! VRS kit,new water pump thermostat, head bolts and timing belt kit have arrived along with all of the second hand bits off the xc70 donor car!Dropped off front guards and bonnet to be "edged out " at panel shop, so pretty much just waiting for the turbo to arrive and we can start getting it back together...I was going to get the front bumper from the XC painted too but it has damage and its a little "boxy" looking, I know others have used them on the R but I'm not sure if its for me Ill run it for a while until I get a new one, second hand are non existent so ill have to save up for a new one. Thanks for looking !Stay tuned Daz

That price of the turbocharger caught my eye. I've recently lost my licence for 6 months for having a bit too much fun in the R and I'm planning in using the downtime to fix her up. A turbo was on the list and I had considered IPD to be the only option, due to V Australia's astronomical pricing for everything. But 960 Aus $$ certainly beats IPD's 1295 US $$. As I explained to you, I'm gonna take my head off to have the valve seals replaced. Would you be able to give a guideline as to what else might need replacing, from experience, after sending in your head and the rough cost to be expected? Is it advisable to replace valves, hydraulic tappets etc? I'm still yet to ring that place on the Northern Beaches you suggested.Keep up the great work with the car, I'm doing the same with a Mini Moke at the moment so I can only imagine how much more challenging an R would be .Nick. DAZ-13B
G'day NickTurbo has arrived, it was a little more at $1060 including tax but who care's ! its new and its piece of mind I guess. My head only needed new valve stem seals and a minor straighten and machine the valves checked out ok however its still costed about $550 plus the seals but that included pre priming the HLA's and cleaning up the cam shafts. Your machine guy will check the valves and report.Front guards and bonnet are ready at the panel shop so I'm gonna head over on the weekend and start putting the front on and hopefully take some pics for you guys

Spoke to my local mechanic and I've decided to pull the whole engine now . He had a good point about it being a waste putting a fresh head on a 200,000km bottom end. I know it is a Volvo and that aint a lot of k's for one but there has been a few things that I've come across to suggest she might have had a hard life before I got her. It may be all ok in which case I can just but her all back together but the main thing is piece of mind.Means I'll be able to put a new clutch in much more easily, its had this annoying clatter coming from it since i've had her and do a bit of preventative maintenance by replacing the bevel gear oil seals. How do your panels look?Nick.

Hey Rob if you are reading can we change the post heading to "Aussie Thread" ha ha ha...My wife kids and I took a 4 day driving trip to Melbourne over the weekend, the 2004R performed well on the 900 km trip on the way down, first time Ive seen -1 degrees on the dash ! lol...
