lookforjoe
Mine puckered in sympathy when I saw them missing in the head shot above That's my old 2.4L LPT motor - I keep it in the basement so I can mock up things like this - I had no intention of removing my engine just to do a header install! thomasw
Real men take the engine out to change the plugs
Tzantushka1568908311
Even real-er men hold the plug still and unscrew the engine to change the plugs.

lookforjoe
intake installcan now run the motor to 8200rpm & still pulls2nd/3rd gear pullthe radiant heat off the header is nuts - so I modified a '99 XC heat shield to fit
thomasw
No worried about heat transfer to valve cover? I realise there isn't an easy alternative if any at all ...
lookforjoe
No, it's much, much better with the heat shield. Most of the radiant heat came from the collector, rather than right off the runners, so this has made a substantial difference. After a hard run, temps on the 'cool' side of the shield are in the low 200's - much better than the 600-800 radiating off the runners & collector at idle beforehand. My only remaining concern is the brake line that crosses the firewall. You can see in the 1st pic that I used a stainless flex hose over it, just to create somewhat of an air gap - I've ordered some "Heat Sheath" to further isolate that center section of line.can't edit my post -forgot to add this short video of the exhaust note - this is pre header & custom intake, beginning of Aug. thomasw
Wow. That's a big difference. I guess the shield reflects a whole lot more than it transfers.Any updates? Dyno runs, drive by video's?
lookforjoe
No, no time at the moment, back to regular work schedule now. Dyno won't be until next spring. Between now & then I will work on refining the setup.I'll try to get my son to shot some footage, I know it sounds nuts from inside @ 8200rpm, can only imagine what it sounds like from outside.Forgot to add, I did the heat sheath on both the firewall brake line, and the fuel lines up the back of the motor...fabricated a revised ECU cooling duct, since that has been unused since I went FMICfiltered inletand installed my dual boost gauge - registers intake boost (red needle) and exhaust back pressure (green needle)crappy vid no can embed anymore???? lookforjoe
Another crappy dual boost gauge vid - hard to drive & shoot<param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390">also stripped the black coating from my hotside intercooler piping, got to reduce heat soak potential wherever possibleThat didn't work very well...
