Headlight Wipers Removed

I was pissed about it when I got them. I didn't use EST. I was going to do just what you did to get them through EST, then VPT had the group buy on them, so I went that way.

My left/right adjustment was broken. It was totally seperated from the light bezel, so the light would swing side to side freely. I couldn't find any adhesive that would bond the plastic together again, so I ended up using a spring to hold the light back against the adjustment. That way the adjuster still works.

I also don't like the pattern they put out. I have had to do several things to compensate for that.

But.. they look pimp. And that's why we have a love-hate relationship with them. :(

Cool ... well sorry to butcher your wiper blade thread lol, but before you switched to HIDs did your beam pattern look like this?

A word about that pic - I just picked it up off a Google search and it's only the driver's lamp on, however I just installed a set of German 323 E-codes in my Mazda Protege and the pattern looks just like that. Now I would never contemplate putting HIDs in those lamps, but I was wondering if the so-called ECE jewels had a beam pattern just like that. If they do, I would think HIDs would work nicely in them

I wish! Here is a crappy pic that I took before I actually tried levelling them:

As you can see, there isn't a smooth, flat cutoff. *But* that could be the result of me taking out that center portion. So I really can't say. Sorry bud :(

Both my lights are adjusted as far to the left as they will go, just to get the "spot" part of the light to stay in my lane. I have extended the left side of the shield for both lights to remove the 'tail' of the spot also.

I don't have any condensation problems though. I never posted any picture of my pattern here, but I have on VPT. Cut off is much nicer than stock, and I have no issues with running HIDs in them. The HIDs aren't the cause of my pattern problem either. I have SilverStars as my brights and I ran those bulbs in the lows to test the pattern. It was exactly the same, just dimmer.

For the cost, I would like to have my cake and eat it too. :)

:) It's gonna look great, Gregg. Just wanted to give some pointers on the passenger side, since I remember people saying it was a oh yeah!, and indeed it was.

So what's the dremel/hacksaw method people have mentioned? If they are a PITA to remove, I highly doubt I would ever reinstall mine when I sell the car. By then the car may be 15-20 years old and I could always say "the car didn't come with them" or "they broke". Either way, I don't think it would make or break the resell not having the wipers on.

Slater, the hacksaw method would involve cutting the metal wiper arm as close to the unit as possible. One of the big problems with removing the wiper motor is being able to pull it back far enough for the wiper arm to clear the hole. Having it hacked off would definitely make life easier, and you most likely could spare having to loosen the front fascia. You only need to do this for the passenger side, of course.

Oh, I see. I figured that was the method.

I need to remove the whole thing because there's something I need to install in it's place behind that little panel. So looks like I'm going to have to do the PITA method.

you hardly ever use the light wipers....only when you spray windshield washer fluid

so it won't be that bad on the scratching.....

Of course you use them often. Think about it. It rains a lot in Vancouver. And spray from other cars gets on your windshield often. So you're using the washer fluid often to get that crud off. And the same crud that's on your windshield is on your headlights, if not more so. And when you've got clear glass like the jewels do, it's easy to scratch them by using the wipers. Trust me, I've noticed.
