The Stig
Hey guys,Might have been known to a lot of you already, but today I decided to remove the sound deadening material from underneath the hood in hopes of making the BOV a touch louder. I have it welded on to my upper intercooler pipe (i.e. the one running from the turbo to the intercooler). I'm running stock boost levels, and wanted the SSQV to sing a little louder. What a freaking difference. The piece hurts my ears now. And I the engine is only marginally louder.. not even that noticeable.Just a thought for all of you wanting the BOV a bit louder.Cheers,Peter
VOLVO S70
thanks peter, i'm gonna try the same thing. my only concern is more heat on the hood.
Guest Prognar
Have any pics?I'm tired of my BOV sounding like a tired old man.
EricF
Just know that the insulation doubles as a fire blanket in case of a fire (mounts melt and falls onto engine). If you start playing with fuel or oil lines too much, it might be a good idea to leave it in.But yeah, it does make a big difference in sound! The Stig
Prognar: pics of the insulation removed? Sure, I can take some for you, just PM me your e-mail address and I'll send 'em. All that's involved is removing those plastic holders and pulling it off, leaving a bare engine hood underneath. Not much to it.As for fire, that's a good point Eric. My car is very stock engine-wise, so I should be ok, but nice to know!Let me know how you guys find it. :)
EricF
As for fire, that's a good point Eric. My car is very stock engine-wise, so I should be ok, but nice to know!←Cool, then I wouldn't worry about it My 745 has no hood insulation and I have a fire extinguisher in the spare tire well just in case... But then again I've had some incidents with fires and engine bays before One key thing to remember if you don't have the insulation/fire blanket, *always* ensure the oil cap is on securely after adding oil... If it pops off and oil starts dripping onto the turbo manifold, that's bad news. I don't know from experience or anything, but that's one someone told me once :P

theunderlord
why? ←cause it'll look cool if you redid them, and you have your heatshield off.
DiMSuMbOi
Its night time here and I removed mine just now. The BOV is definitely a lot louder. I love the sound. However I am concerned about the hood warping and the heat ruining the paint on the hood in the day when its hot. Anyone with experience?

Anyone with experience?←i have run my charger to look like a sunset in LA: pretty red. with oil temps up 150 degrees celsius. and i have the insulation removed. my paint looks as on a all other spots so i guess it wont suffer from a little blow dryer.forgot: my charger heat shield is removed as well, so all heat goes up.
