Onboard Diagnositcs Jumper/probe

On my 1994 NA it happened sometime ago. Actually the wire broke exactly where it goes into the diagnostic unit, close to the button and the led.

I pulled the whole unit up, and found that I could disconnect it from the wiring under it with no difficulty. After undoing the connectors (2 if I remember correctly)

I took the unit to the bench, and if you look at it closely you will see taht you can remove the top part or cover. You will see where the wire goes. Just solder that back in place and you are set.

Good luck, and let us know if you have any trouble with the fix.

Luis

Good Luck, and let me know if you succe in the fix.

The little metal probe that plugs into the diagnostic sockets on my 95 854 has broken off (from repeated uses!)... is there a cheap way to fix it, even if only temporarily?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply, Luis. What is I do not have the little metal probe? My dealer is the one who actually broke it (well... it was fine before I brought it to them) and I would like them to replace it if they fess up. In the meantime, I wanted to find out why my check light is on. Any ideas?

Thanks

guys,

my 1995 wire isnt broken, however, on 3 ports i cant obtain the default 1-1-1 for no codes. instead, no diodes winks at all. it happens on both A + B modules.

does this happen to you? ive seen posts that say to reseat ECU plugs and spray contact cleaner. any feedback? thanks.

It depends on which ports...some don't repsond or don't store codes (some don't even have contacts). you may not have a problem at all.

Whoops, I replied to the wrong quote. Luis, you are referring to the unit containing the sockets, right? My problem is with the lead that you plug into that unit. The little metal probe that is attached to a wire broke off from repeated use. I had noticed it was getting pretty bad the last time I had to check codes (2 months ago). However, about a week after my car had been at the local dealership I tripped a code. When I went to check it... surprise!... the cover to the unit was missing and the probe was gone.

Does anyone know what that probe is made out of? Is there a temporary solution until I can get another one soldered on?

Thanks

I fixed it without soldering, it broke off right where it connects into the box, I took apart the box and by using very small surgical tools, i just stripped the wires more and twisted them back very snugly, its been fine for a few months now.
