Does IPD make ignition coils?

Doesn't IPD make their own brand ignition coils for '99 & up Volvo's?

I thought I read somewhere here about a 'V70R' specific ignition coil, that was higher performance than the O.E. coil #30713416 ?

Anyway, I had a coil die on my '00 V70R and I figured I'd replace them all when the next one goes. (I had a spare)

So if IPD doesn't make ignition coils are the Bosch any better or worse than Genuine?

Still I could swear I saw a 5cyl Volvo with IPD branded coils somewhere...

I am of the belief that when one goes they are all going to start following. I had 3 of them go one at a time around 100K. After the 3rd I swapped out the remaining. I that seems to be the experience around here, when one goes the other are close behind.

I'm currently running the IPD HD coils I like them! Car seems smoother and has a bit more grunt then stock coils. You can especially feel it at low RPM and cruising.

Our HD Ignition coils are temporarily off of the website. The quality of the last products we received wasn't up to our standards. Don't worry, none of this batch were sold, we identified defects prior to selling any of them. We are working with the manufacturer to correct the issue, but in full disclosure they haven't been as receptive as we would like so we may be exploring alternative manufacturers. These things take time to sort out, and I would realistically count on 90-120 days before we have these back up and available on our website. We definitely apologize to all those who are interested in purchasing our coils, and please know that we are doing everything within our power to expedite this process. In the meantime we do offer OEM Bosch coils, and now that we buy direct from Bosch you may find our pricing to be enticing. Also, free shipping in orders over $99 shipped in the lower 48.Thanks everyone!-Brandon

You can get Bosch MotorSport Coils from ARD as an alternative, if you don't want stock Bosch replacements

Hussein, I never tire of looking at your engine bay! You've put in so much work on your Volvo, and it is just incredible!!

Interestingly, when we inquired with Bosch about their "Motorsports Coils" for Volvo 5 cylinder application, they confirmed that there is no such offering from them. When you look at true Bosch coils manufactured for motorsports-specific applications their cost is several hundred dollars PER coil. It's odd that a product Bosch denies manufacturing can be had for at or below the cost of a stock OEM Bosch coil?

Thanks, Brandon  :)

Interesting. Can't say I had any greater success with them over the stock Volvo coil pack anyway. Using TurboTuner COP or onboard M4.4 COP, I still had coils fail under high load.

Now I'm running LS2 coils.  :D

Brandon,

Any updates on iPd coils?

Also, for anyone who knows... what are some typical symptoms that a coil or all-coils should be replaced? Or do you just do it as a maintenance when you reach a certain amount of miles?

Thank you in advance.

Nothing on the horizon as of yet, I'm afraid. In regard to your question. The most obvious signs of coil failure would be misfires. The misses may be sporadic at first and then begin to increase in frequency. It's always best to check the condition of the plugs and to ensure they're gapped properly when diagnosing misfires, so make sure to do that before you replace your coils. Some describe diminished fuel economy as another symptom of coil failure, but that can be a bit more nebulous and not the best metric for coil failure.
