KitCloudkicker
Hello all, I am new to this forum. I got myself into a project rescuing this 269k mile 2000 V70R. It was in pretty bad shape when I got her. After some $$$, patience, and scolding from the wife-to-be, I got this laser driving. I should have been on this forum sooner. Seems to have more P80 help, threads, and discussion. The fixes so far: New key, new fuel pump, new battery, new front windshield, swapped rear windshield, new tires, new e-brake assembly, XeModeX etm installed, ABS module replaced, valve body repair, heated seat switch replaced, under glove compartment/map panel replaced, O2 sensors replaced, IPD turbo control valve, cam solenoid replaced, spoiler+paint, touch-up, jeweled headlights... and the list continues. I do have an issue I am hoping to get insight on from some P80 gurus and I will try to post a video to describe what I am talking about. ETS light was on before ETM was replaced. ETM was replaced with a used XeModeX unit from a S80. I get an intermittent throttle hunt. I tried removing the MAF sensor and the throttle hunt appeared to go away or show very little variance in throttle position. I decided to clean the MAF. After cleaning, I drove around for 10 mins and the throttle hunt appeared to be gone, but after I parked, the symptoms appeared again. Recently, I took a video of the tachometer to show the throttle behavior. See below. Any helps, tips, suggestions would be appreciated. NEU
Told you that you needed to be here... You missed out on Carlisle last weekend, we had 4 lasers blues there! But never got a photo of all 4 together. All over 200K miles.
KitCloudkicker
Yes, you were right. And there's always next year. Did you take any pics? BTW, is there no way to "edit" a post?
NEU
I did take some, others are posting on VS and FB. The edit button is in the lower right, next to MultiQuote.
KitCloudkicker
There is no "edit button" next to "MultQuote". Just "report" to the left and "Quote" to the right of it. I think maybe because I am a "newbie", I have not earned the privilege of being able to "edit" my posts? Have you checked out the video of my laser's idle behavior? Any insight? There's all this talk of MAF, B+ wire, and things. I just want to make sure there's nothing else I can try before trying to replace the etm with another XemodeX unit. No vaccuum leaks were found, at least none the mechanic could find. Yesterday, I experienced some lost of power; it was unnerving especially making a left at a light. ETS light came on and I parked it at the grocery store. I got my groceries, turned the car on, ETS light was still there, throttle hunt was still there, but less noticeable. During the drive home was the throttle was more responsive and no severe power loss was experienced then.
NEU
Yes must be cause you are a new that you can't edit yet. So keep posting! I can't download videos to my work network so I'll have to look at it when I'm able to. Or you could try posting it to Youtube or something to embed it in this post. If you are noticing all the lights (interior and exterior) pulse at idle at night then you have an issue with the B+. It's kinda a pain to fix since it's under the intake. I added another battery cable from the alternator to the battery directly, my connection at the starter was kinda cruddy. The cable had the terminal ends for battery hookups and was about 3-4ft long. From the back of the alter, down to the subframe and across it. Then up to the positive battery terminal. Solved all my lights pulsing and notice slightly higher voltage at the battery. But what you are describing sounds like ETM. And you have a new XemodeX? Did they give any advice on what to check?
KitCloudkicker
It's not a brand new XemodeX unit. It's used from a S80. It looked decent and clean.
sk55
i just got xemodex unit for my 99 v70r.. works perfectly. They program it at the factory specifically for your car.
KitCloudkicker
I think that might be my issues. The one I have came off an S80. I'm thinking of ordering a fresh one. Did they take your old core?
KitCloudkicker
Weekend work: Adjusted the hood, tightened the hood latch cable, shim the hood, repaired/fixed both rear door panels, replace speaker on front passenger door, repair/fixed front passenger door panel, replaced a climate control knob. Hood still takes two pulls to completely unlatch. I may have to shim the driver side more. I had to move the latch itself up so that the hood no longer dips down past the fender panel. jcadlols
On the hunt, it can be an issue at the pedal end. I'm getting intermittent codes at the moment, pointing to issues with the pedal. I did run a test in vida on the throttle body & it is well within tolerance.
KitCloudkicker
Pedal end? What's the fix for that? These things are drive-by-wire right? Some kind of sensor, mechanism for the pedal will need to be replaced? For me the throttle hunt is there even at idle when I'm not on the accelerator pedal. My pedal does feel sluggish at times when the throttle hunt is at its worst. Right now, I won't be making quick left turns at the light from a stop with on-coming traffic. You can imagine why. No sudden push on the accelerator; I kind of have to ease-on to the accelerator from a stop position. I feel like the throttle plate isn't responding as quick as my input. I'm planning to order a brand new xemodex ETM when I get a break from work.
