olfac87
2007 R wagon. I just completed the 112500k inspection. I noticed that the passenger rear strut was coated in grime, starting as far up the strut as I could see (laying on my back on the ground and looking up) and working downward. I replaced the strut at 85k, which was just about 1.5 years ago. Is it possible the strut is leaking so soon? Could it be something else? Thank you.2007 R wagon. (Looks the fronts are called struts and the rears called shocks.)
Tzantushka1568908311
Could be...There's nothing else back there that leaks oil! Suggest you give it a good degrease and clean down and inspect in a few hundred miles.
NEU
Passenger side suspension components take a beating with our roads. Maybe you hit a pothole hard enough to bust it? With the beltway repaving on the interloop I'm surprised that I don't have something that's broken. In the past know my passenger side suspension parts bust before the drivers side does (endlinks, sturts, shocks, bushings, bearings, etc...) olfac87
Thanks Tzantushka and Neu. And sorry about the late response. I appreciate both your replies. Looking at the car on the long trip I just took, the right side rear definitely is lower than the left. Looks like I need to replace. I read somewhere I should do both at the same time. Is that true, or given they are relatively new I can just replace the one?
Tzantushka1568908311
Best practice is both at the same time. With that mileage, and if my budget allowed, I would replace both.
