dneu
My 2004 vibrates severely at speeds between 50-60 MPH. but only under the load. Sometimes, under acceleration it is pretty severe. As soon as I take the foot from the gas pedal vibration ceases. I have all new tires and wheels balanced. I have checked the intermediate bearing and joints. No excessive play in neither of them. What else could be the culprit?
Ihatespeedbumps
You have a driveline vibration, either from the front axles or the front to rear drive shaft. When you mentioned it only happens on acceleration and ceases when you remove your foot that is the dead give away. I would double check the front CV joints for excessive play and check the carrier bearing in the center of the vehicle.
flyfishing31568908306
first thing that popped into my head is the carrier bearing. Do you hear anything?
dneu
After a few months this problem is not solved. The central carrier bearing and its mounting seem very solid. They do not move much when I pry on the shaft against the floor. I have seen worse without my car's symptoms. I have checked CV joints when I replaced outer dust boots on them. No noticeable play. But there is a differnce in vibration when I drive to left turn - it is very strong, in the right turn almost not noticeable. Could the culprit be - in spite off shaft;s solid feel - the left drive shaft?
ashpee
Hi All, has this issue ultimately been solved on this particular car? Br
baaderapple
I have an '07 manual transmission V70R and for several months now, I've experienced the same vibration under load. It starts to vibrate around 90 km/h (55 mph) and continues from there up. I feel it in both the steering wheel and through the seat. I've replaced both half-shafts, and currently the front to rear shaft is removed. Once in a while, while at constant speed, the vibration becomes much worse, kind of like a standing wave. Everything on the car begins vibrating and there is a tremendous amount of engine noise, almost sounding like a helicopter is hovering over my car. The noise seems to emanate from the engine compartment. The "standing wave" vibration will only go away after 10 minutes or so of driving, or, if I slow right down to 30 mph, not something I would recommend on a freeway. Otherwise, the vibration is constant at highway speeds, just not as dramatic. I'm really at a loss to explain this problem, and would appreciate knowing what happened with the other cars experiencing a similar problem. The Volvo mechanic thinks it could be an engine mount, but I would like to hear from others.
