boost controller is about 35 bucks from www.boostvalve.com/pricelist.html. It increases boost output from your turbo by allowing the wastegate to stay closed until the desired boost level is reached.

It's a very noticeable mod and the gains are great, however your car eats more gas. It does this because your ecu notices that there is more boost being put through the car so it adjusts the fuel mixture a bit. Keep in mind that this mod should only be used until you plan to chip the car, because chip-tuning adjusts everything to run with more boost better than a boost controller does.

would it be noticeable if i used the turbo xs performance boost controller with my Upsolute chip. I am boosting right around .9bar. maybe just add one more psi?? would this work??

Carlos' setup is just like that. He is using a turboxs high performance boost controller to boost to 19psi. Thanks for the How To, this is easily my next mod.

Couple of questions I have about this install:

1.Are any exhaust mod's needed to support the after-effects of having higher boost - i.e. will it damage the engine/turbo if a mbc is installed without first putting in a performance exhaust?

2.Could a car with an otherwise stock engine run this without any problems?

3.Will the "overboost" condition be noticeable to a dealer when you go in for service (even if you remove the mbc)?

4.Lastly - how did you set the mbc? i.e. how do you determine how much boost it will allow?

that looks like a ghetto boost controller he used, the TurboXS comes with a ball spring which you turn with a key that is supplied to adjust the boost. This will be trickier for me to install since the highperformance has another outlet and since my stock air box is gone replaced with the piper cross intake i dont have clips anymore so my wires are just laying all over the place.

no, i didnt pay 100 bucks for the turboXS shiny boost controller. i got mine from http://www.boostvalve.com/pricelist.html and payed less than half for the exact same thing. its a piece of brass with a spring and a ball bearing inside that holds back boost pressure until the spring's set pressure is reached. and i can adjust the boost the same way by turning the adjustment knob looser for less boost, and tighter for more boost.

1.) no.. ive been using it for almost a year with no problems at all. i do have a k&n panel filter though, but its still the stock induction kit, but thats irrelevant. i havent upgraded the exhaust yet and i havent seen any problems. but im also not running it as high as the boost controller will let me.

2.) yes, see above.

3.) when you put the MBC on, the check engine light comes on. dont panic, theres nothing wrong, its just the ecu noticing an increase in boost which it isnt programmed to notice. when you take off the mbc, sometimes the check engine light stays on for awhile or until its been rest. so, when you take your car to be serviced, remove the mbc (you never know with dealers what they will say if you leave it on), and then theres no problem. they will see the check engine light is on, figure out its overboost, and when they dont find anything in your car (i.e. an MBC) then they just reset the light. no problems.

4.) since an MBC and not an electronic, i'm afraid you have to just guess and check (best if you have a boost gauge, you just drive and see the boost level and adjust it more or less accordingly). in MY case, my MBC has a max of 15 psi (thats the max pressure rating on the spring in mine), and i dont have it tightened all the way, so its probably letting it by at about 12 psi, but i dont have a gauge yet so im not sure. but most only go to max of 16 or so unless you purchase a high pressure spring to replace the one inside. but dont worry about it. set it in the middle and go from there.
