S/V40's world wide - Post a picture of your car and where you from

Hi all... and greetings from the Land Down Under! I've just bought an S40 as a daily driver, in an attempt to keep mileage down on my Number One car, Focus RS. I love having 'Volvo inside' the RS so I thought I'd get it outside as well for my 'normal' car...

'Tis a 2002 (MY03) 2.0T with 176,000km on the clock. Not exactly low, but it's not sky high either. In terms of getting around, it's much more economical than the Focus, but then it's not exactly a performance car. Yet, anyway - let's just say a quick look around these forums has tempted me... ;)

Clean , VERY clean!!

Yeah, amazingly, considering the distance it's travelled. Once I get the turbo replaced (it's blowing lots of smoke; I've ordered a T4 one) it should be a nice, comfortable car to use every day - certainly much more so than the RS is! I might even play around with it a little, something I don't want to - or need to - do with the Focus.

Seeing some of the upgrades owners on here have made is really tempting me to do something. Probably will wait until it's running perfectly reliably first. That said, even with the turbo on its last legs, I managed to drive it from Sydney to Brisbane (about 1,000km / 600miles) and it didn't miss a beat. And it uses sooooo little fuel! Stoked about that...

Especially with those S60/80 wheels on it, it just gives it a whole new look. I really like how clean you've kept the exterior thus far. Mine is a daily driver that's driven around 90 miles a day!

Hehe... believe me, it's not looking that sparkling clean now! Once the replacement turbo is fitted, and I have some new audio/navigation components installed, I might get a full detail done, just to make it look nice and new - or at least as new as a 10-year-old car can look. Oh, and I'll need the Volvo centre caps for the wheels - all four are MIA...

One of mine is lose, I fear I might lose it soon! :(

I just had my car cleaned up quite nicely the other day, not detailed though, but washed professionally.

I've just picked up the centre caps from a very helpful eBay seller. I checked with a local Volvo dealership parts division yesterday and was quoted A$33 each. I have four coming from Stateside for US$50 delivered. I'm quite happy with that pick-up... B)

  • 1 month later...

that's a nice S40 you got. mine was just like that when I got it, just with 86kms. keep it tidy.

It is nice - when it's working! I picked it up cheaply, so I guess I should've expected the odd issue. First it was a blocked cooling system, which was a cheap and easy fix; next was a broken turbo (about which I didn't shed a tear; it meant I could fit the T4 snail!); and now it's a dying gearbox. The trouble with that is finding a replacement one secondhand, for if it's a rebuild, I'm set back up to five grand - I only paid seven for the whole car...!!

Is it auto or manual tranny. If it is auto then have you try to flush the fluid?

It's an auto, and it's way beyond flushing stage. The valve body's on the way out, so I have a couple of contacts searching for second-hand 'boxes; a rebuild of the one in the car would apparently cost between $2,500-5,500. I just can't justify that when I paid $7,000 for the whole car...

I think Matt's had a change of heart because he's also wanting the KW shocks. I hope he does keep it because I want to see his car!! :D
