javadoc
I'm looking to add a 4-channel amp to my system but wanted to see what you guys have done. Right now I'm running my mains with the power from my SC-816 HU, and my 2-8" JLs through a 300W Kenwood sub-amp. My sub-amp is mounted on a small frame that I constructed below the rear deck, and then the subs snick up under the deck. Being a bandpass box, it's bulky, so it takes up all the space below the rear deck, but that's okay w/me.At any rate, I'm trying to think of a good place to mount both amps. My 4-channel amp is a Fosgate that I picked up from a friend. I should get pix of them all, but never have. I'm thinking of mounting the amps in the spare tire well, but that might negate the use of a spare unless I'm really creative... ideas on that?Your pix, ideas and creativity are welcome! My goal is to keep the amps as out of the way as possible.
Kibim
My stock volvo 4ch amp sits under the drivers seat.

Kibim
Kevin, if i went to all the trouble, and still had cables laying about, i'd kill myself!
javadoc
Thanks I'll check out Doug's as well.Kevin, that's basically how I have my sub-amp mounted right now, except the rack I used was wood (I was in a rush... never made it better). Isn't it bad to mount your amps upside down b/c of heat, or is that not really true? Nice install, by the way!<Edit> Ditto on the wires. Actually, where are your rear deck speakers and why? Actually, where are your rear deck speakers and why?←It's not reccomended, but there is lots of free air, and the rear speakers are pretty pointless if you have a sub, so I just pulled em out. The bass is a little louder now, that and I drive with the pass through down. You could always make that rack go down farther, and mount the amps right side up if you wanted... I've thought about that.. but this setup works fine for me. I've never had a problem with overheating, (where the amp shuts down while driving)
merlin390
mine is the same way, upside down on the rear deck. Never have had a problem with heat. Remove the rear speakers let the bass come through. I just stuck my factory grills back in place minuse the speakers.
Guest Guest_Helmut Ranff_*
Upside down is fine especially with rear speakers removed. Nice wires Kevin
AnthonyR
I'll find the pics later today, but I took the spare wheel out and made an amp rack for my two amps down there under a plexiglass cover.

I think I'd like the amps down there the best. I thought of a kind of double-decker rack, if the amps would fit in the confines of a full-size (16") spare, but I dunno on that point, since I'm still in the planning stage. It'd be the more stealth setup, imo.Hmmm, removing rear speakers? What about rear seat passengers? Do they just get sound from the door speakers then? theunderlord
Hmmm, removing rear speakers? What about rear seat passengers? Do they just get sound from the door speakers then?←yeah, pretty much.. the rear deck speakers are like 8" 2 way woofers, so if you have a sub, they're pointless. the rear door speakers are well enough to provide your rear passengers with sound.. There'd be Hell to pay! :)
