wow, this is a great write-up, i just found it....after getting that cover off though, how hard is it to go all the way to be able to replace the evaporator??? (the part of the A/C behind the dash, whatever that is?)

Getting the rest of the dash off is relatively straightforward. The center console has to come out and so does the steering wheel. Neither of which are very difficult. Getting the AC module out and r/r the evaporator is just one more PIA away. That is where it gets mighty frustrating but it can be done, ask me how I know. You cali guys don't need stinkin AC anyway.

To get the main dash out.  The center console is in the way.

He's right, technically you could leave it in but you risk breaking the bottom of the dash trying to flex it. It really is only 4 bolts or so.......the least of your worries if your removing the entire dash.

EDIT: Pardon the construction debris

Looks good. Was it very difficult to take the entire thing off? I noticed that the red harness connects to all the switches and such. That should make it easier.

Is reattaching everything hard? I might do this to make the thing quiter.

Not really hard, took my time and baggied each group of fasteners. Time consuming. Reaching that red connector and getting it apart is awkward. Lots of connectors to remember. I personally would just get the haynes and tighten up every fastener on the dash and not bother with taking it out. That would save alot of time and probably fix most of the squeaks, my dash is pretty silent now.
