Joe_m
When the car is cold and it shifts (auto) from second to third, the car makes a funny grinding/rubbing sound. I believe it has been there since I got the car 5K miles ago. It shifts and runs smoother since I put in new plugs and did the tranny flush. No warning lights. Only makes the sound the first time it does the 2-3 shift. It is probably the tranny, but the sound vaguely reminds me of the sound that my Olds made under hard acceleration when I was 17. It had a shot engine mount. 5spd auto trans125K miles2000 NAI'd appreciate any advice/help.

Is that supposed to happen every time you drive? If so, that could be it.

Bay13
Well so far, whats been said I agree with. First thing is I would confirm that your noise is not the ABS self test. The ABS test is every key cycle, and it activates the ABS for a second or two only one time. It happens at about 20Km per hour.
