Auto Trans: Funny 2-3 Shift

When the car is cold and it shifts (auto) from second to third, the car makes a funny grinding/rubbing sound. I believe it has been there since I got the car 5K miles ago. It shifts and runs smoother since I put in new plugs and did the tranny flush. No warning lights. Only makes the sound the first time it does the 2-3 shift.

It is probably the tranny, but the sound vaguely reminds me of the sound that my Olds made under hard acceleration when I was 17. It had a shot engine mount.

I'd appreciate any advice/help.

You sure it's not the ABS self testing function, it'll do it once when you're at around 20mph, and will make the noise you discribe?

Well so far, whats been said I agree with. First thing is I would confirm that your noise is not the ABS self test. The ABS test is every key cycle, and it activates the ABS for a second or two only one time. It happens at about 20Km per hour.

Sweet! That's is what it sounds like and at about that speed. My head will now go back in the sand. :D

Thanks, guys.
