2004 Lost Turbo

The other day I was accelerating hard out of a parking lot and heard a loud "bang/pop" from what sounded like the right rear of my 2004 V70R. I'm pretty sure it wasn't a backfire, but it was a similar sound. Ever since then I've lost my turbo. My biggest concern is causing additional damage by continuing to drive without properly functioning turbo, my second concern is the potential cost to fix it, and my third concern is not being able to merge onto the Mass Pike as safely without the added benefit of my beloved turbo.

I called a dealer and their answer to my first question was I could damage the engine (if I'm seeing white smoke from the rear due to low oil, but I'm not and the oil level is fine), exhaust system, and/or catalytic converter. I have no way of knowing if i'm causing exhaust and/or converter damage. Their answer to my second question was there are way too many things that could be going on to assess the situation without taking a look at the car and running some diagnostics...a totally fair response, but I was hoping for some more information.

So, can anyone provide any information re: causing additional damage and/or the potential cost to fix it? Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks in advance.

Hello

As long as your oil and water is flowing true the turbo without leeking it wont hurt your engine :)

Just buy a turbo from the internetz or from any local scrapyard.

Could have also just been an intercooler fitting blowing off.  Check the intercooler piping and joints.  Have had that happen on my T5 and it was the intercooler - etm pipe blowing off the etm.

if that was the case the engine would not run so good. if you take apart a IC tube the engine will problably shut off becouse it dont get enought air :)
