NWBen
I’m sure there is some info on this somewhere but I can’t find anything. This post is regarding the fitment on a 2003 S40 I was installing a set of Goodridge brake lines today but I ran into a little bit of snag and I’m not sure what to do. It seems like the new Goodridge lines do not fit in the upper bracket that secures the connection between the hardline and the flexible line. I didn’t get to the rear lines because my help had to leave, but the front lines fit in every other way except in this one bracket. It looks like the fitting on the steel line is just too big to fit in hole in the bracket. Is this ok? Has anyone else had this problem? Since I haven’t installed the rear lines yet, is there anything I should know about the fitting of the rear lines? So far the brakes feel good but I am a bit worried about how this will hold up long term. I have some pictures but I don’t have an image hosting account so maybe I can get one if I need to…
theForgottenone
Can you custom make a new bracket? I know I have to use zip tie to keep my line in place
NWBen
I don’t have the tools or the know how to fabricate a custom bracket. Warren, did you have to zip tie all four or just the front two? I installed the rear two lines on Sunday and they fit in all of the brackets easily. On the driver’s side, I just had to push slightly to get it to pop in. It nearly shot brake juice in my eye. The passenger’s side didn’t even pop in. It was totally loose and only stayed in place because it was screwed into the hard line and secured with the clip. This raises a baffling question. Did Volvo really make the brackets in the front about a millimeter smaller than in the rear? I think I’ll try swapping the front and rear lines next weekend, but I don’t expect that to work. If it does work that would mean that the brake lines are an exact fit but Goodridge did not bother to label the front and rear lines when they are significantly yet nearly imperceptibly different. On the bright side the brake feel is fantastic. There is no sponginess at all. I was surprised at how much more control you have to apply light brake force. IMO this is how brakes should work and feel. theForgottenone
I only have the front steel braided brake line. it came with the custom BBK kit i bought from a former member. The only thing I did is the zip tie the line (a bit longer) so it doesn't get damage during turning but it does hook into existing bracket. Let me see if I can dig up some old picture This is when I was still riding on Koni struts.
