PLANT
Hi all, I had my original top radiator hose replaced. Obviously coolant was replaced.Prior to this my temp gauge needle would be dead centre and seemed to get there very quickly on start up.(Unnoticeable) Now It slowly makes its way to the centre and seems to be a fraction to the right of middle? ie. 5 minutes of driving. Is this common and normal? 1clean00
When they did the top hose and the coolant was the thermostat replaced? What temp thermostat is being used? Stock is 90C which is roughly 195F.
catback
And if the thermostat was replaced, was it with an OEM (Volvo) thermostat or aftermarket? There is a short list of items that MUST be factory (IMHO)ThermostatSpark plugsGas cap odds are that the new coolant hose allows for some improved flow/better cooling. I wouldn't stress over this. I'd be more worried if the temps were climbing. To the righ of center would indicate a lower temp to me.As long as you aren't getting a CEL with a temp lower than expected error, then I'd say all is good. PLANT
Right of centre is higher temp for me...just a tiny bit....that it is not dead centre. The thermostat was not replaced this time but has been on previous services before hose replaced. TEEKAY
Dead center usually happens ~194ish for me. Even up to 220 it's still dead center.
1clean00
When i switched from a 90*C to 87*C thermostat in the summer and added a bottle of water wetter my temp stayed just under center. Toward the cool side.

1clean00
I ordered a 87 stat yesterday! Save it for Spring tune up if you want hot heat this winter!
Phixion
Dead center is where it should be at. I have good experience with this while utilizing an ECU read digital reading of the coolant... The needle will not begin moving off the center until somewhere between 225 and 228F... This is roughly 10 degrees HIGHER than the car should ever reach. 215F is the fan fan switch temp and I never ever saw my S40 get higher than this temp, even in horrid traffic in the middle of a 110F+ heatwave... If you can get your hands on a code scanner that displays live data, it should be able to let you see the ECU reported actual coolant temp. TEEKAY
I stand corrected, I watched the temp / reader today. Dead center at 172.
theForgottenone
Mine is slightly under dead center. I used 87 c thermostat
PLANT
So a code reader should tell me exact temp?
Phixion
Well it should tell you what the ECU is reporting which should be fairly accurate temp wise. But it's a digital reading which gives a more clear picture than a gauge that doesn't move much.
